Quick: good restaurant rec. near MSG?

Last minute tickets to the Knicks game with a friend...anyone have a casual, mid-priced recommendation in Chelsea or the surrounding area? Not Cafeteria, I've been there. Still looking for spots and sick of relying on nymag.com

If you're a homo you might like Elmo which is up the street from Cafeteria.

Honestly I don't know much around MSG that isn't in Times Square or probably too far for you in Hell's Kitchen or down in the low teens.

Niles (Generic New American) on east side of 7th between 31st and 32nd....or 30th, or O'Reilly's (authenitic Irish Pub) on 31st between 6th Ave.and B'way.....pretty much a wasteland.

I just moved to 31st right by MSG.....K-Town (Korean) is fun but a complete rip off for what you get. If you have the time go a few blocks south in to the 20s for some more variety...not sure what your $$$ range is...closer to MSG is "brgr" about 8 blocks south of the Garden..goood burgers, not much in the way of atmosphere,

Tons of great restaurants in Chelsea: Boqueria (19 & 6/Bway) and Tia Pol (22 & 10) are top notch for Spanish/tapas; Brasserie Klee (22 & 9) or Trestle on Tenth (24 & 10) for nice Swiss/German/Austrian-inspired food; RUB (23 & 7) for the best BBQ in NYC; Pepe Giallo (25 & 10) for cheap but good pasta; Le Zie (7av & 21) for good Italian and best spaghetti & meatballs...

Now if you want something really close to MSG, you're in bad shape. I don't know of any really good restaurant around there. One OK place I've been to a couple of times is Seven (7av & 29)

EDIT: good call Sam re BRGR - pretty good burgers if you're in the mood for that

How funny you and I seem to go to (or at least like) a lot of the same places.

I really like Pepe Giallo and Trestle; but, those are probably to far over for him. RUB is always a good choice and no further than if he was willing to go to Cafeteria.

BRGR is good for something quicker. Also, there is this hole in the wall Mac and cheese place on 7th Ave somewhere between 30th and 28th that I have been wanting to try.

We've lived in Chelsea for a while now - and we don't cook

That place is gross actually. "Supermac" or something like that? I would not recommend

I cooked when I first moved here and that lasted about 3 months. Now all I do is keep stuff for salads, fruits and plenty of frozen BocaBurger lasange and Morning Star Farms corndogs if we don't go out.

Thanks for the input on the Mac. I'd had to eat that much of something being full of fat and it not being enjoyable.

To the OP or GDL, what about Markt? Didn't that move to the 20s and 7th or 6th from the Meatpacking?

Artisanal - 32nd btw Park and Madison (relatively close to MSG).

I wondered what happened to Markt. Seemed like they'd always done a ton of business and then the next thing you know it's an Apple store.

Ever? Don't you get tired of restaurant food? I didn't cook for 2 years and I got so sick of it. Granted, my income was lower so I couldn't afford to go to the same types of places you probably do, but still... I find that food you cook yourself is often the most satisfying.

We cook probably twice a month. Never on week nights, usually on Sundays. No we don't seem to get tired of restaurant food (I'm actually not sure what that means - different restaurants, different food) but we do enjoy cooking dinner at home. We both work long hours and simply have no time to shop for groceries and cook during the week.

With all the dinners out, we still cannot manage to try all the restaurants we'd like to try. We are both very interested in trying new chefs' cuisine so dining out is something we enjoy tremendously

that's the ultimate city life , I envy that ........ I , on the other hand eat home cooking every night and have to bring the left overs for lunch the next day.

I think it was a lease issue. They moved to somewhere in Chelsea (7th ave around 20th, maybe?).
