Hi everyone!

For those that don't know me, my name is Ian and I've been bumming around on Styleforum for about 4 years now. This forum has been an incredible source of not only knowledge but friendships as well, and I'm excited to work more closely with the community that helped me through countless decisions regarding clothing, careers, and so much more.

I'm here in this thread because I run the Men's Style community at Massdrop, a community-curated e-commerce platform for product enthusiasts. We've worked with tons of men's apparel and accessory brands, many of which are names very familiar to those on the forum.

The idea of Massdrop grew out of something that most forumites will be familiar with - group buys. The idea is simple - a handful of hobbyists with a shared passion all want the same thing, and by working together they can get something special at a better price ("if we get six commits, they'll waive the MTO fee on these shoes!"). Of course, anyone who's organized such a thing on a forum knows how complicated and messy it can get. We wanted to take that concept, clean it up, and make it into a professional business model. We want to help you all get the products you love at great prices by leveraging your buying power as a group. Moreover, we want to preserve the sense of community that exists here by having in-depth conversations about products in the same place they can be purchased.

Over the summer I started talking with Fok about how we could work together, since I think that the Massdrop platform could be a useful tool for Styleforum. Our first project was a group buy for made-to-order ties by Panta, and the drop was hugely successful (we sold 350 ties before we had to stop collecting orders in fear of running out of fabric!). For those that got in on it, the ties are in our warehouse right now and will ship to you asap :)

I wanted to start this thread not only to alert you of products that may be of interest to Styleforum, but also to get your ideas on future projects we could put together. I look forward to seeing what you folks come up with! Happy to answer any general questions as well.

Hi Ian

More made to order projects will be good, e.g. Small leather items or shoes. Also items that are difficult to obtain outside of source countries, e.g. Talarico umbrellas. Cheers.

Ian,

Do keep us informed about further Vass orders, and please accommodate wider widths with shoes!

Ian,

I've gotten a few items from Massdrop, not all menswear related. I like the concept a lot and check the Massdrop offerings regularly. I'm disappointed that the Res Ipsa black watch shoes didn't happen, but I'm glad this tread is happening. The more awareness the better.

Ive done about 4 drops through massdrop and like the concept. Its always nice to get the daily emails with the "whats new". Not always the best price but usually very competitve. Keep up the great work.

So far this platform looks really promising. I haven't yet received any of my orders, but I've participated in 5 drops (and was seriously considering 2-3 more). It's a great way to get little things like socks and shoe trees. I think it could be really beneficial as a way to getting items from non-US brands like Meermin or Ring Jacket. I'd also like to hear thoughts on ordering tailored clothing such as a sport coat from Ring Jacket through Massdrop.

Thanks! Agreed about the Res Ipsa loafers - some things just don't have enough of the right eyes on it, you know? I think that was basically what happened - we had a cool product at a good price, but not enough people that were in to that kind of thing. Hoping more visibility on the forum helps that!

I've had a couple very preliminary talks with Nick Ragosta at Ring - not enough to really say whether or not something is feasible, but I've put the bug in his ear, so glad to hear that Ring would be something that would be interesting to you!

Personally, I was thinking that a run of their A-1 blousons in a bunch of fabrics not currently available would be interesting, but that's just me...

I agree with the sentiment that this is a good opportunity to put together group buys for stuff not readily available in the U.S. Japanese shoes come to mind. I know that is complicated, given sizing and a bunch of other factors. But the Japanese shoe thread has whetted our appetites and I would think that there would be lots of interest.

For Ian: I am interested in one of your drops -- the Feather AS-D2 Double Edge Razor. However, I am only interested in purchasing it if it clears at the lowest price. Right now, you have a way to go. I am not willing to commit now and be bound to one of the intermediate price drops if the lowest price is not achieved since I can either buy something else or buy this product on Amazon today at a competitive price.

Is there functionality on your website to place a bid conditional on the lowest price being achieved? I am not at all willing to commit and get locked into anything but the lowest price.

Uh, I thought you can do that exactly. Under the price the product is at right now, there should be a "commit at lowest price" where the actual price is where I stated lowest price. You click on that and it commits you only if they get enough to warrant that price.

Edit: here is a pic

Yep, JC is correct! Happy to answer any other questions.

Also, the Panta ties are shipping out as we speak! Here's a pic from @GMMcL , who got all 5 colors
