Roll on back of suit jacket?

Hey everyone!

I am new here and looking for some advice on what to do about the roll on the back of my suit jacket.  I did some research and I think I need to take it to a good tailor and they can take care of it.

Do you guys have any suggestions or can confirm what I read online? Just want to make sure this is something that can be fixed, also about how much would this cost do you think?  I live in DC, I bought the suit at Jos a bank.

Thanks a lot!

Quite common, and definitely fixable (although I'm not a tailor).  Have a read of this article for more info (lots of other great articles on the site too) - http://articlesofstyle.com/36098/garment-doc-series-the-collar-roll/

As for cost, the tailor I used in Aus quoted about $40 to fix this, but I imagine that will vary

I have to have that altered on every jacket I buy. It's a simple fix.

Welcome to forum, Cody (great name). You can ask some of our tailors here http://www.styleforum.net/t/265924/the-tailors-thread-fit-feedback-and-alteration-suggestions. Field is a great tailor in DC. If you're willing to spend a little money, it might be worth taking to him and seeing what he has to say. Cheers.

I greatly appreciate all the help everyone!  I thought it was pretty common but the one tailor by me said that it cant be fixed and I would need to be a bigger jacket

That jacket looks too small for you. Looks like more than just the collar needing to be lowered.

I hope its not too small as I had it took in a little bit by a local tailor and not at jos a bank so if it is too small they probably wont take it back now and I will have to buy a whole new jacket.  I am hoping some other people can comment on this and hopefully give me some good news that it can be fixed.

Thanks everyone

My first thought was that it looked too small as well (apart from the roll issue), but it is impossible to tell from this picture.

Im guessing you had it taken in at the waist, but it looks too small across the back. But hard to tell from one picture, as others have said

would the roll issue not be able to be fixed if it is too small?

When I had it fitted at Jos a Bank they said it was a fine fit because I wanted it to be as tight as possible and they gave me the warning that it will need to have the roll fixed at the top, however I couldn't do it right then because I bought it when I was in PA for thanksgiving, I live in DC.

I guess I am a little worried now because I already had it taken in (yeah it was at the waist) and im assuming I wont be able to exchange it for a bigger jacket.  The local tailor I had took it too to hem the pants and take in the suit around the waist said it was too small on the back and need a bigger size, wish they would've told me that before it was altered.

So if it is too small will I not be able to get the rolls fixed?

the tailor can push that fabric up and cut away under the collar.

but

the jacket is too tight across the blades.

did you have the tailor take in the chest?

the fabric should be still inside, they can let some back out.
next time, go up a size.

Thank you.  The tailor did take the chest in a little, Jos A Bank said I could not exchange it since it has been altered which I 100% expected so I really hope this is able to be fixed.

So do you think overall it ll be fixable? Sounds like it may be pretty expensive to ix it all, but it is worth it.

Im getting nervous that the suit may be ruined now and wont be fixable and I obviously cant exchange it or return it since I already had the pants altered and had the jacket taken in a little.  I am not sure why they told me it was a fine fit when I bought it.

Take it to a good tailor and ask if there is enough fabric to take the chest and back out enough to improve the fit.  If it is not fixable, it's not "ruined;"  it just won't fit as well as you may have wanted.  Get some wear out of it and remember this lesson the next time you buy a jacket.  We all have made similar mistakes early on.
