How to pull off a Burgundy Suit - for a smart casual look?

Thread Starter

So the big office Christmas party is coming up, and we are all going to a fancy-ish place for food, followed by a night out in bars etc..

For the night I have picked up a really nice suit, best descriptive of it being; Burgundy, skinny fit (to suit my build) and only 2 piece, no waistcoat.

My dilemma is, I've never work anything like this before (colour wise), so I'm not sure the best way to wear this in a smart casual way. Could anyone help out with advice on shirt, shoes, belt and pocket square colours?

My main thoughts were either a) white shirt, open collar, Dark gold pocket square with a tan belt and either tan or ox blood brogues. or b) Black shirt, belt and shoes, unsure on pocket square colour...?

All advice much appreciated!

thanks,

Phil

White shirt, dark brown belt with dark brown shoes or black belt with black shoes, and white or gold pocket square (unnecessary) would be okay. Do not wear a black shirt.
