I recently purchased my first grenadine tie, ever, from My reason for purchasing from Aklasu is that I am in Canada, and a lot of the value from purchasing online from the US is stripped due to taxes, duty, shipping, etc. I understand that price may not be of an issue to some (quality vs quantity), but I was trying to fit within a specific budget with this tie.

I came across the website via Google search (navy grenadine tie Canada), and promptly crossreferenced the company with a search on styleforum and AAAC. Nothing came up.

Full disclosure - I am not as well schooled in the art of fine menswear as most members of this forum. I am, however, trying to learn by reading any thread I can as this forum is a wealth of knowledge for a newbie like myself.

After checking the forum, I decided to email for information on their product. Really my biggest concerns were making a payment and never seeing a product arrive, or receiving some cheap poly tie.

Mensah, the owner, was quick to respond to my inquiry. He explained to me that none of their materials were sourced in China (my first question), nor are the products assembled in China and finished in Italy (my second question). I asked if hand made meant entirely hand made, and he assured me that their 6 fold ties are entirely made by hand, and their grenadine are nearly completely.

I placed my order for the french blue grenadine, and a few days later the product arrived. The ties come rolled in neat cannisters. Previous ties that I have ordered came paper wrapped, so I thought that was an interesting touch.

The product itself felt nice to my hand, and the knot dimpled nicely. My tie experience in the past has been limited to what I have picked up from Harry Rosen (Zegna, Eton, Canali, Pal Zileri, etc) and I was as pleased with this tie as any of those. Again, my knowledge is not on par with what is the standard on this forum, but to me it was nice, and it looked good with the suit and shirt that I was wearing.

Mensah has been great to deal with, and I am a very happy customer. I appreciate what he is trying to do with his product offering, and that is filling a void here in Canada.

If anyone wants me to post photos of the tie itself, just let me know and I can accommodate.
