I know that traditionally, a topcoat should end at the knee or just below and an overcoat should end at mid calf. However, when I look at the current selection at Brooks Brothers, Jos A Bank, Nordstrom's, etc., it seems that almost all of the topcoats end at mid thigh and the very few overcoats that they advertise end just above the knee. Have outerwear styles just gone shorter?
I'm looking to make a purchase in the next week or two. I live in NJ, so while the winters perhaps are not brutal, it definitely gets quite cold and we get a fair amount of snow. Thanks for any advice.
