Btw a lot of arab christians name their sons jihad as well. I know several christians jihads.

Especially with the habit of naming a son like his grandfather which helps keep some of those names around.

“When the history of the Afghan resistance movement is written,” the Independent wrote, “Mr Bin Laden’s own contribution to the mujahedin… may turn out to be a turning point in the recent history of militant fundamentalism.”

Maybe one day we'll stop arming people around the world because they're fighting with one of our enemies or perceived enemies.

Bin Laden specifically?  No.  We did arm others who fought the Soviets in Afghanistan.

Wasn't Bin Laden in Afg. during Soviet Invasion and fought with other arabs ? If that is a fact then he could have been recipient of US military aid in one form or another.

Bin Laden hid on top of a tree from the Russians. He was so terrible, Ayman pulled the plug on that experiment, and just used him for his Saudi money.

We directly armed and trained the native Afghanis. It's possible Bin Laden indirectly acquired some materials through them but there's been no evidence the US directly armed Bin Laden's groups.

Rambo III actually has a very good breakdown of this complex issue.

If you mean, Congress did not approve his groups among recipients of military aid than perhaps you are right , what do I know. However US (in its usual fashion) shipped the arms and money to Pakistan and after that US had no fucking clue who received what and how much was stolen by Pakis.

My buddy once opened a shipping container in Afghanistan after it had traveled through Pakistan and it had a hole cut out of the top and a pile of empty night vision boxes.

Also, you shouldn't say Paki, it's a slur.
