You might not get a sofa in time for the dinner party, but there's also Ligne Roset on King Street and a new Roche Bobois on Townsend. Limn probably carries these, but there may be more choices at the main showrooms.

I also recommend checking out House of European Design, on Jackson between Hotaling and Sansome. They tend towards German makers, but do have some Italian as well. The studio is pretty small, but the two guys who work there are great and they'll show you catalogs of things they can order far beyond what's in the studio.

As for The Magazine, their SF studio closed many years ago (2001?) I purchased a dining table and low console shelves from them earlier this year and the customer service was great.
