Where to find a quality suit for heavyset guy?

Hi guys,

I am new to the forum.  I am 5'8" 225lbs and I am looking to buy a nice new suit.  Problem is my options always seem to be limited. Would love to go with a nice designer but they never fit.  I always seem to be limited to mens warehouse.  I am willing to spend a good bit just do not know where to go.  Please help.

Have you thought about going to a bespoke tailor and having one made for you? Most of the time this costs the same as or even less than a luxury designer's poorly made suit.

Where are you located?

Eric-I would love to do that, but do not know any good  tailors to do this in my area.  Do not know if I would trust them anyway.

Billy- I live right outside of New Orleans.

Anyone have any ideas?

Has to be bespoke. When I was really big nothing off the rack helped. Even the tall and fat stores clothing didn't fit right. Go bespoke - even though you may have to travel to do it.

Last time I was in New Orleans I walked into a couple of shops that seemed to know what they were doing. One was Rubenstein's on Canal right across from the French Quarter and the other was Luca Falcone on Magazine St. in the Garden District.

I cannot personally vouch for the product of either one, and they both appear to do only made-to-measure, which can be a risk if they don't back up the final product with a quality tailor, but maybe they can at least help you or point you in the right direction if it doesn't work out to be a good fit for what you want.

Seems to me Rubensteins is worth a go:

Thanks fellas.  I bought a suit from Rubensteins when I weighed about 190lbs.  Nice Jack Victor suit.  Last time I went in there the service was horrible.  I said I would never go back.  This was about 4 years ago so things may have improved.  Probably going to give them another shot.  They have some nice products.

I note that it's "made to measure" rather than "bespoke" so the price should be reasonable.

OP, have you looked at Brooks Brothers Madison fit suits? Madison is their most "relaxed" cut. Judging from your specs, I'd say you're a 42 or 44, is that close? Looking at the link below, you can get up to a 44 in a short length, too. If you're near a BB, it's definitely worth a shot.,default,pd.html?dwvar_553K_Color=GREY&contentpos=5&cgid=0216

Have you tried 44S ?

I've been helping a friend that has the exact same stats, and 44S seems to work perfectly with most brands. Maybe even Regular, if the suit has a modern (i.e short) cut.

Salad- I am close to a Brooks Brothers.  I will check them out.  I always looked at their suits more for work.  Correct me if I am wrong.

Dreamspace-  I will look into that.

Thanks guys

Yeah, at least give it a shot. A proper fitting suit will look good at work or at play!
