Japan and the good ol' US of A make outstanding denim, too... better (with Japan, anyway) in most cases than what's made in Italy. Dior, for example, had the best jeans they made when they were produced in Japan; the Italian ones are definitely lower quality. Same with Jil Sander. Same with a whole bunch of designers. As well, most of the big name Italian designers outsource their denim all over the place... Turkey, Romania, China, etc. Why the worry about made in Italy? Italians have their cheap-o brands, too.

It's just that here in England,we have an influx of designer clothes that are italian (Versace,Armani,Sportswear Company etc.) where the labels have started producing in low cost countries for cheapness and the pieces made are pure crap IMO.You get AJ that are made in Hong Kong and the quality is well inferior to an italian produced version.
I was requiring any product as long as it's italian made.Even american companies such as Hollywood Trading Company fall into this.(I have a pair of HTFC jeans MII and they are truly awesome).

You need to learn what makes a good pair of jeans as opposed to simply where it is made. Look at Japanese denim or some American denim and see just how it compares. Italy has some fine denim, too, but it's not the be-all and end-all. Basically, you might also want to look for jeans made by companies whose primary purpose is to make jeans. Regardless of whether it is made in Italy or not, most of the designers use pretty low quality denim and mark it up to the price of premium thanks to "branding." Again, older Dior and 2005 Jil Sander were made in Japan and were far superior to any of their Italian made stuff. They were also more expensive.

Exactly. If you do your research first, you'll save yourself a lot of $$$ and get a wardrobe of items that will be worth your time and effort. Just buying "made in Italy" doesn't really mean ANYTHING. Check out the streetwear and denim forum around here; there are TONS of discussions about really excellent jeans that will be much more satisfactory to you than a made in Italy jean that has a huge designer logo on the ass.

I agree.Back in the late 80s I used to buy 501s that were produced in the States. Then I moved onto Timberland (also produced in USA) then Armani.
I remember how I felt when I found out that Levis started producing batches of jeans away from America, and believe me,I dare not write how I felt on here !

Their denim is complete shit. Since we're talking about jeans, I'll leave it at that. They're poorly made, thin denim, occasionally pre-distressed in half-hearted ways, though fortunately just boring. The denim and construction are almost embarassing, though sometimes the cuts can be very nice.

Nothing compared to Japanese brands. I own Dolce and Gabbana, Prada, etc. And I also own higher end Japanese stuff, which is much better than designer denim.

Even Dior denim, which I also own, and is liked by denim enthusiasts still doesn't have the quality of Japanese denim.
