so i read a post a while back about, a classic outdoorwear brand. it seemed like pretty cool stuff. apparently it used to be made by a unionized group of 70 workers in downtown seattle. anyway i just went on their website and it says the stuff is now imported. sort of a travesty i'd say.

I have some filson stuff. I really like the heavy duty wool vest they make. High prices, but good quality - made in the USA!

You may have read my post from last year. It is now made overseas, I know it is a cliche to say this but the quality has gone down significantly. The union was broken years ago. My family has been in Seattle for 100+ years now and everyone used to wear Filson exclusively (I only know this anecdotally and through pictures) but no one on the old Seattle side of the family will buy the stuff now. Filson may even shut down the repair shop in their flagship store on 4th ave(if they haven't already, I never look back there). I still get a shirt-jac from them every couple of years and my father still get his vests there but we will probably stop if they close the repair shop.

Some Filson stuff is made overseas but a lot of it is still made in the US. Most of their waxed clothing and leathergoods are US made.

Most is made overseas. All wools and cottons from what they have told me. I think they said the luggage is still made here. I am going down there tomorrow for my fathers Christmas present, I will ask them then.

Gee, maybe because it's yet another thread that is about a company that's moved its production overseas? This is old news.

Gee, is this forum restricted to information we all already know now? I didn't get the memo...

If you don't have any questions/comments/input about Filson then you shouldn't click on a post titled Filson. Not everyone is familiar with the company or the search function.

I'm sorry if I came across as a troll, but seriously, even the article linked to in the original post is from 2005.

Oh, I didn't even bother to read the article as I am pretty familiar with the history of the store already. Misunderstanding, my fault.

Hmm, that's a good question and I don't think there really are many, at least from the "old" brands. Filson has not yet moved all of it's clothing lines overseas yet though, so you can still get USA made pieces. Woolrich has also recently started production on USA made clothing again, though they've always had their mills running here. And of course there is always companies like Alden and Russell.
