After trying on 20+ suits I think I finally found the one - fit check pls?

Hi,

I've been posting on and off on this site, mostly about my issues with finding shirts and jackets that fit me in the neck.
(95% of jackets look like this: )


I've been looking for a suit for over a month now, I tried a lot of different brands and cuts (including suit supply) and I finally found a charles tyrwhitt suit (slim fit, size 50/40) that I think fits me decently well (as well as I can expect from a otr suit probably)

I was hoping someone else could take a look as well:




I'll definetly have to get the sleeves (and pants) shortend but apart from that is this acceptable?

There's a different already created thread for this but to me the chest looks a tad tight and the waist a tad full. Not enough shape in the waist. It always baffled me why people post here - just take it to a real tailor and let him work. They have a comparative advantage.

There are plenty of tailors that will work on whatever is brought into them, rather than tell someone the fit does not work. Not sure if the "comparative advantage" was a typo....not used in the right context.

@Snaap , like Jonathan mentioned, the chest is a bit tight...the waist has plenty of shape IMO. The tight chest is causing the collar to pull away from your neck. A tailor would have to open up the jacket and see how much allowance they have to play with (let out). The trousers are a concern because the top block appears to be really tight. I'm not a tailor, but those are just the first things I picked up on. This is the thread Jonathan was referring to http://www.styleforum.net/t/265924/the-tailors-thread-fit-feedback-and-alteration-suggestions. Might be worth posting in there and you'll get more feedback....hopefully from a couple of the tailors that monitor the thread.

The shoulders look off, especially the left shoulder.

They really do. Like they are almost independent from the rest of the jacket.

you have a square shoulder, the jacket is designed for normal shoulder, you prob need to remove some shoulder padding(not sure it's worth it on a fused CT suit). I also happen to have square shoulder, only MTM or bespoke jackets will fit me

Thanks to everyone for posting! After taking anther look at the pictures and trying the suit on once more I came to the conclusion that you are right and It really doesnt for well. I will be sending the suit back.

I dont know any good tailors in my area, at least none with whom I'd be comfortable cutting open a new suit.

Yes I'm pretty sure it's the issue it's rather unfortunate. I thought about getting an mtm but this would be more expensive probably so I tried looking otr first. From what you wrote I assume you can't recommend any otr brands/cuts either?

Surely you can google some suggestions for tailors? If not, you can always find a reputable OTR suit store that's local to you and ask them which tailor they use for alterations. In my experience, the decent stores will generally use decent tailors.

Also, I wouldn't be too concerned about a tailor opening up a new suit. Very rarely will a tailor cut any material when altering an OTR suit, they just take in the seams. So if things go really wrong it's not too difficult for them to revert the garment back to its original state. Besides that, altering garments is supposed to be the tailor's area of expertise.

Like others have said, the jacket is too small for you. You should be looking for an OTR jacket where the shoulder fits as close as possible and then have the sleeve length and waist taken in by a tailor. However, I'm more concerned with your trousers. There is some obvious pulling at the bottom of the seat of the trousers. You can see how they get really tight at the bottom of your butt cheeks, which is a sign that the seat is too small for you. It's good to have trousers which are snug on your bum, but they should drape down from the middle of your bum rather than hug the bottom of it.

That's a good idea actually I will be shopping for suits anyways so I can definetly ask, thanks.

I see, that interesting, I always assumed that most alteration (apart from shortening) aren't easily reverable.
You are right the trousers look aweful but I also ordered the same had in a differenz size (bigger and shorter) and they fit a lot better. The first step for me was finding a jacket that I can work with since I assumed that trousers should be less problematic, so I didnt bother changing.
