Bringing Solito to San Francisco (or maybe Los Angeles)

I'm hoping to get something made by Solito but don't want to travel all the way to NYC, where he's visiting again. Curious to see if anyone in San Francisco, or maybe even Los Angeles, might be interested in ordering something. If we round up enough orders, I may be able to convince him to add a West Coast leg to his tour.

For those unfamiliar, Solito is a Neapolitan tailor. Soft, slightly rounded silhouette with a full chest and open quarters. The style looks great and the prices are very reasonable (in the ballpark of Steed or NSM).

Do you have a date ballpark? Will it be another duo with Luca's shirts?

He's set to visit NYC again in Dec, but if we can't get something organized by then, we can try to catch him on his next trip. Don't know if it would be with Luca. Probably depends on whether people are also interested in ordering shirts. I myself am just looking for two sport coats.

Ok, I'll keep an eye out. I might be good for a SC if it gets pushed to the trip after December.

I love his work. However, If I recall correctly, several years ago there were issues
of several members not getting their orders done in the time promised, etc.
Nothing about money lost, just a problem with unfulfilled orders.

Yes, there were three people. Two have been resolved; one is still working through his order. I believe that will be sorted out by December.

Count me in, especially now that Gennaro Paone has fallen through.

Is it even lucrative for Italian tailors to travel stateside given the demand from China and Japan?

State side, probably. California/West Coast, probably not.

I think out of the forum favorites, only Ambrosi travels to California regularly for the past several years (with Saint Crispins). But even him did not visit SF always. Now with Wingtip carrying SC, Ambrosi's visit seems certain at least within the next year.

As I recall Paone and Musella Dembech were planning New York trips and cancelled given the demand. Just how many customers does it take on a consistent basis for tailors to keep traveling?

FAIK, the demand for bespoke suits in China isn't that big. Unless you count Hong Kong as part of China. But on the mainland, bespoke tailors are usually invited out as a way to lend status to an event. So some big wig might throw some big promotional event for whatever reason, and he'll invite a bunch of companies -- including Savile Row tailors -- in order to make the event look more prestigious. But the tailors aren't raking in that many orders from those things (although, from what I understand, Poole has a stand out there).

Steed tells me San Francisco is now their second biggest city, in terms of orders.

Ambrosi stopped coming out to San Francisco for separate reasons, not connected to the Wingtip carrying SC.

Oh? I thought Ambrosi visits SF nowadays alongside SC.
