Looking for New Denim Recommendation

So I'm planning to buy a new pair of jeans in the next month or so. Originally I planned to get a pair of Nudie Straight Svens (my RRs fit me near-perfectly, I just want a straight leg rather than a boot cut), but I think I'm starting to shy away from the stitching on the back and realizing that I can get better quality denim for the price.

What would you guys suggest for a "dressier" pair of jeans? Meaning minimal stitching, a slimmer (for me, not "slim") profile that I can wear Chelsea boots with, and less than $250-$275?

PC New Standards are exactly what you are talking about. Check Denim Bar, and if you can't get them there, check Context. If those both fall through, call APC up. Check the APC thread for sizing info as you'll need to size down 1 or 2 depending on how baggy you want them to be.

I assumed APCs, too...but since I didn't mind spending more than what they'd cost me, I figured I'd see what else people recommended.

For APCs, would the Rescues not be a better fit for me considering which Nudies fit me best?

I highly recommend the raw black new standards. They are 10x nicer than the indigo version.

The New Standards are a slim straight, while the Rescues are more of a straight bootcut. If you want the New Standards to be a little looser on you, only size down 1 in the waist. You'll need a belt, but the fit will not be bad at all. I sized down two and they aren't too loose for me (I hate loose clothing), but it's really just whatever you like.

I'll also be getting the NS in raw black later on down the road, most likely.

Thanks for the advice.

How would any of the KMWs compare given what I'm looking for?

The 2010 is a serious boot cut, the 1950 is a classic cut, with a fuller top block and a half inch taper and the 1980 is a true straight leg, much slimmer than the Ralf. Forget about the Rocker. I've tried the 1950 and 1980 in two sizes each and neither worked for me. 2010 might work, but I'd want the boot cut tailored out or at least toned down, and I'm not sure I can hand over a pair of $275 jeans to a tailor, since I can't seem to find a really good one.

Have you considered the SDA-103? Awesome jean and it fits right into your budget. It does have a slight taper, but it's not that noticable.

Are the 1980s too slim compared to the Ralfs? Meaning, if the Ralfs fit me well, will the 1980s be too tight/slim on my thighs?

And where would I find a pair of SDA-103s? Any links?

I agree with stylin. Don't go to APC after nudie. Those are both starter jeans.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking as well.

They aren't, lest KMW dramatically altered the cut following their production move to Japan. The made in Hong Kong pair I sold a few months back are perfectly straight from the thigh down. Definitely a relaxed straight, trouser like cut, similar to the Flathead 5100.

They did. It's a larger bootcut than RRDS. Check out Context's site for pics.

from Context:

Tagged Size Measured Size
Waist Rise Knee Leg Opening

31 31 10.25 9.25 9.95 (most likely a typo)
32 32 10.25 9.25 9.25
33 33 10.75 9.5 9.5

The 2010 is fit for the denim enthusiast who enjoys a looser comfortable fit. This straight leg cut has plenty of room in the thighs. A refined cut for a manly build.

How are these bootcuts, then? As for the pics, all denim, especially if raw, bunch like that with extra lengths. That's why the tapered New Standard or Levis 501(current model) both look like straight legs.

If I'm a pretty perfect 32 in Ralfs, what size should I be looking at in KMWs? And given what I'm looking for and what fits me, would I be better off with 1980s or 1950s?

I actually really really like the look of the KWMs...pretty much what I was hoping for, I think. Relatively speaking, are they good quality for the price?

I haven't personally tried them on, just going by what someone else on here told me. Whether they flare out from the knee or are cut straight from the knee down, they are still huge below the knee. All the measurements list them at well over 9". You could stuff some snowmobile boots under them. And the washed ones look like flares.
