Glad you liked it! If I can figure out what the glassware situation is at this venue I may bring a couple 750ml's of their saisons to share. I was thinking of saving a growler of their hoppy beers from my trip up there last week but I have no self-control when it comes to their IPA's. That said, NYC has been actually getting very decent distro of HF kegs. @nahneun could comment further but I'd wager that if you're spending the weekend in NYC, you could probably find somewhere that's pouring it.

Happy weekend, y'all.

Our Content Director Thierry Augustin interviewed and took pics of @Millers Oath of New York City, born in South Dakota.  It's tailored style reflects it history: traditionally American, masculine elegance.

Quote:

Things We Like, That You Should Too: Miller's Oath

Currently in their fifth year, Miller’s Oath opened as a full bespoke tailoring service. In time, they’ve come to scale their offerings to provide ready-to-wear and made-to-measure, as well as a host of accessories all designed in-house and manufactured stateside.

“We spent about 2 years developing our ready-to-wear collection. We worked with three or four different factories and we just couldn’t get the details right. So to find someone that could do it and would work with us to get it right that was exciting and that’s when we really started to feel like it was coming together. “

And they’re known for their details. The house style jacket is a one-button, notch lapel with semi-roped shoulders and a cutaway front that mimics the morning coats of a bygone era, a cutaway that carries over to their exclusive shirt collar. The design is, in a word, inspired. The family owned and operated establishment is a nod to style at the turn of the century when their great-grandfather kept shop in Groton, South Dakota. Initially a dry goods store supplying miners that sought gold in the Black Hills, it became a one-stop shop, eventually including a tailoring service, for those heading to Chicago or Minneapolis after a successful tour. After all, there’s no better way to mark an accomplishment than a finely tailored garment.

The pick axe motif echoes that heritage, a long-standing tradition of American-made goods that Miller’s Oath continues to promote with an aesthetic all their own: elegant, formal, and undeniably masculine. Heavy tweeds, rustic olives and browns, regimental yet unrestrictive for a tailored lifestyle, not just time on the job. And with the introduction of their denim line, American-made of course, Miller’s Oath is now an option for every day of the week.

Be sure to catch Millers Oath at our upcoming trunk show The Proper Kit. November 7th in NYC. RSVP Here

Welcome to the working week!

Next up is our own @NewYorkIslander and his labor of Brooklyn love, Yellow Hook Neckties & Co.  A much better history of the brand is from Rob himself, but as a fellow schoolteacher, I had to pay my respects to Mr. Rossicone!

Quote:

Things We Like That You Should Too: Yellow Hook Neckties & Co.

The Basilica of Saint Clement in Rome stands as a marvel of human history. In its three levels, this structure in its current state was built in AD 1100. At its foundation lies the roof of a fourth century basilica, whose foundation was a Roman nobleman’s home, destroyed in AD 64. Before that, probably other hearths long forgotten. After that, homes that will be.

The study of history is at-once a glance of our achievements in our short time on Earth, as well as a reminder that we’re nothing more than tomorrow’s ruins.

Back to Italy, at more recent layer. Robert Rossicone and his wife Courtney are born-and-bred Brooklynites, descendants of Ellis Islanders teeming at the shore. Serving his community as a middle school history teacher, Rob has weaved together his love of the subject and taste for classic attire into founding Yellow Hook Neckties & Co., now three years running. Making neckties completely by hand, from scissor to needle, Rob, Courtney, and their team pride themselves on making their ties the old-fashioned way.

A new collection has Yellow Hook partnered with exclusive cloths from W Bill, who has their own history of weaving Welsh tweeds for almost two centuries. But at his best, Rob scours the deepest textile archives in his city, filled with the boroughs’ styles of yesteryear.

“There are back rooms filled with goodies from the past. Once I see something on a shelf, I’ll strike up a conversation and explain what we do here at Yellow Hook. I also can’t help but swoon over the history of some of the pieces we find.”

With the stout construction of such ancient fabrics, not all are suitable for making into neckties. But when it works out, Yellow Hook hangs from the collar as a love note to a city’s rich past, which is often left for the next generation to gut, bulldoze, and lay flat for some next modern monument.

But then again, it’s not like Brooklyn has a problem with its past.

“You can still go to Coney Island, and visit the same building my great grandfather used to cut hair just off the beach in 1910.”

Rob and Courtney started Yellow Hook as a labor of love, an outlet for their creativity. But it’s also their connection to their past. To Rob’s own great grandfather Leo and his Coney Island barber chair. To his great uncles Antonio and Vincenzo, outfitting the locals from their tailoring house on 18th and 86th. To his stoop on Bay Ridge, whose’s golden soil gave the town a different name.

And it’s also a link to the future, preserving a quality and integrity for their own children to feel when they get to tie their very own Yellow Hook.

Be sure to catch Yellow Hook Neckties & Co. at our upcoming trunk show The Proper Kit. November 7th in NYC. RSVP Here

Hello Gentlemen,

As a Styleforum affiliate for over five years, we're really jazzed for the Proper Kit show! We are an NYC-based menswear shop and clothing brand. We design a dynamic collection in-house and produce at a network of factories throughout North America and Europe. We're best known for our trousers, chinos, woven shirts, and sneakers. But our assortment spans a lot further than that.

We have two storefronts in New York: one in Brooklyn (Cobble Hill) and one in Manhattan (Lower East Side). As such, we're going to bring a targeted assortment of merchandise to the Proper Kit, and focus largely on Made-To-Order pieces. I'll post a bunch of photos here over the next few days, but here's a quick rundown of what we're offering:

t's on, again! This time in a really beautiful, incredibly lighted space, on W 36th Street, just off of Fifth Avenue.  The Proper Kit will have more options for customized footwear, tailoring, shirting, and accessories than any trunk show, ever.  So come get kited out for the long winter and to have a drink or six with us.  (There will also be some great food - Eclairs from Eclair, for one.

1) The exclusive Epaulet Chelsea Boot preorder! We're going to offer our natural-crepe soled Chelsea in six colors of suede and three colors of steerhide. A full set of size samples will be available at the show for fittings. Place the preorder now for delivery in March 2016. Any preorders placed at the show will receive a matched belt for free.

2) Our partners at Luigi Bianchi Mantova will be on hand to offer Made To Order sportcoats and suits. Any orders placed at the show will be 10% off

3) We'll also have our good friends from Individualized Shirts on hand for Made To Order shirting. Order two shirts and receive a $50 gift certificate. Buy three and get a $75 gift certificate. Or buy four shirts and receive a fifth for free.

4) Attendees of the show will receive a coupon for 15% off any full-price stock items at our two NYC storefronts. You can redeem it in person at our storefronts anytime between 11/7 and 11/15.

Styleforum itself will be debuting its collaboration with Rider Boot (@RIDER).

Here is a little glimpse of what we have in store for you:

There will be 12 different iterations of these balmoral boots available for MTO and GMTO.  If there is a minimum of 6 boots of any one configuration ordered, the order will be considered a GMTO.

Here is the pricing.

Calf and suede versions: $475 + shipping ($20 within the USA, and $50 outside of the USA - these are discounted average rates).  Retail is $635.  For individual MTOs (i.e. we can't make the 6 pair minimum) + $75 (cost)

Shell Cordovan versions: $975 + shipping (same as above) for GMTO.  Individual MTO is same as above, + $75.

Come by the Styleforum "booth", ahem, right up the stairs on the penthouse floor, and you can take a look at these, try on the first iterations of our leather jacket collaborations with @LuxireStudio, or try out some of @the shah's Frank Leder cosmetics.  It's a mixed bag, as Styleforum tries its hardest to be.

If I am not running around like a crazy man, which is likely to be the case, maybe we can have a cup of genmaicha together.

Or a little bit of bourbon.

Cheers,

Fok.
