Anyone else's Ebay items at low bids?

Seems like now is not really the time to sell clothing, especially used clothing, with the holidays fast approaching. I might get a whole bunch of auctions ready (300 or so), but not list them until early January.

I was just wondering about this. I've been holding off on listing some stuff, but I'm nervous that January -- when the Christmas bills come due -- won't be any better.

Sadly, the items I've been interested in buying haven't suffered from the seasonal slump.

Why would you think January would be better? Granted used clothing is not a typical gift item, but aren't people more likely to buy suits and sport coats (even used), before Christmas rather than after, I would think? And January has all the super sales on NWT retail goods.

As you know, vman, I'm not an Ebay seller, but I'm interested in your rationale. Were you selling on Ebay last year, and was Christmas a tough selling time? Was January better?

BTW: Thanks for all your help on selling and shipping tips!

Nothing of mine is doing spectacularly either. Probably doesn't help that the economy isn't exactly booming.

I can't even get a bid on a Robert Talbott holiday tie.

I think there is some logic in this, but I would think NWT items would do better now.

Yes it's harder than last year, but I believe that the holiday buying mania raises bids on our pre-owned stuff as well as the new stuff. I suspect that January will be worse, so I'm putting everything I can on sale now.

January and February are always the best months of the year for ebay sales. Been that way for all eight years I've been around.

It's like this every year; most people have already got acquired all the gifts / items of personal indulgence, the year-end retail window is closing, stuff start getting marked down everywhere...

As far as eBay is concerned, I somehow think it might actually get better on January, with people out hunting for deals and all.

I wish these low bids would affect all of the items I'm watching. It doesn't look like that way at the moment.

Hm.

Maybe I shouldn't knock myself out in the next few weeks to list stuff, then.

Where is that pensive smiley?

Just an observation. In the hour since I posted the above...my visits more than doubled. The power of SF?

Or dodgey visit-count software.

Yes. Of course I had to look. And everyone else lurking this thread had to look. This thread makes a nice, tidy list of some of the best ebayers on the board.

I'm going to hold off until 2008. I think you are fine if you are selling real "christmas gifty" items like NWT Banana REpublic or something you are fine. People are still looking for gifts. but selling unique, rare shoes and clothing is not going over well right now. I wish I had known, I would have sold everything off in October.

Its basically - is your item a gift to be given to someone other than the buyer? you are fine.

is it something the buyer would buy for themself? sales are off
