like the look of checked ties as objects, but I really don't like to wear them. They do have a super casual atmosphere that could be in place in certain contexts, though. Truly for the man who has every type of tie. If I were to wear a checked tie, I would just as soon were a sweater, tbh. It is super casual.

Super-casual or super-formal (wedding ties.) My only frequently-worn checked tie is a B&W glen plaid which I pretty much only wear with a white shirt and a navy suit.

I saw a gentleman on Park Avenue last week wearing a silk glen plaid tie to the office. It’s not common for business in New York, but he looked very sharp, in my opinion.

Let's finish up the knit discussion. At this point, I'm going with KW and possibly Sozzi but what about this German manufacturer Conrad Wu uses? Also Drake's?

Here's my Lands End. The knot is ok, but it could be better. Cf. the KW knot. I consider myself reasonably adept at knotting so I blame the tie more!



On color, the LE which comes in two lengths and seems to me easy to get if you are in the US (and often cheap), is midnight, but it can appear black. So it has a nice versatility.

The problem with knots on knits is that the seam can often show at the knot, and I find that rather unattractive but it is perhaps unavoidable (you can still see it in Coxsackie's Sozzi). This is seen in the KW as well



Still the overall shape of the knot is pleasing.

Other recommendations for knot quality?

I'm not feeling the seasonal issue so much though I agree that a more open weave is evocative of spring/summer. But I would wear them year round (color being more a deciding factor along with what it is paired with).

I have thoughts on wool ties for F/W and I am a big fan of PoW ties for non-wedding contexts (but more on that later).

It's OTR Canali, believe it or not. Very open hopsack weave with skeleton lining.

PoW's, not just for weddings anymore.

Elio, I have no idea why you wouldn't wear that tie with navy flannel SCs that I know you own. It's perfect. Or I'd take it off your hands, been looking for something like that.

OK, here are a few fits with PoW or similarly checked ties. In different color ways, I think it pulls itself out of the wedding feel and into something that works with more casual contexts.

First, the wedding version, with blue overcheck.



This one feels still a bit formal, but it's bronze with red overcheck, so a bit less city:



Two summer ones from Eidos, a bit of fun, whimsy, in cotton. First is blue with yellow overcheck.



Brown with pink/teal overcheck...it's surprisingly a lovely tie, though not well brought out in the photo below



Ignore the aborted attempt at a goatee.

I'd like to pick up a two in wool this winter, one in navy and one in brown. I'll find pics of the Cappellis I hope to have made up.

All-Cotton ties? Naturally, i'd assume they suck though you do seem to have a decent knot with them. Cotton-blends on the other hand are quite nice.

I appreciate the whimsical attempts of informalising POW ties and i further appreciate the look on others but it is not for me.

I have one 100% cotton tie. It's great, but it is getting a little fuzzy after about 10 or so wears.

First two are silk. Second two are 100% cotton. We'll see how they hold up but knotting is not a problem.

I can see where there might be a difference of opinion on these ties, whether from tradition or from context (say one works in a conservative business dress environment). As a stuffy academic I appreciate these more whimsical offerings to add some "color".

Alas the Cappellis I hoped to have made are gone!

I think that fit of mine is "too checked" though the idea was to play with scale. But I ended up with something too energetic though the full fit might have softened the checks. That tie is more safely worn with a solid blazer.

On Manton: I'm trying to decide if I like that tie or not...I think not at least in this fit. Is that a grey suit? Seems a bit of a clash. But thanks for posting that.

There's a square fail thread? I think yellow and brown are fine, but I don't like the bright square there on what is otherwise a desaturated look.
