Cox, i really like that tie but not that jacket and square: too cutesy and garanimal.

^ Please outline your objection/s in more detail. Are the pieces themselves not to your taste, or is there a problem with the matching?

BTW the jacket is part of a suit. Yes, it's fairly outré.

I think you may have missed the cultural reference. Garanimals was a children's clothing line which used a system of animal tags so that kids could put together matching outfits.

Huh. I just referred to them in the past tense, but apparently the brand is still kicking. From their site:

Garanimals are featured on the size stickers for easy visibility to parents. Garanimals are also featured on the actual product (in the neck or waistband labels), so children can continually use them as cues for coordinating as they get dressed up all by themselves.

SB, as helpful as ever.

My main point - if i may partake in analysis-paralysis - is that the green in the tie picks up the green in the jacket almost identically; ditto the browns. The  square too also has the same or similar repeating colours.  It is all  too cutesy for my tastes.

I like all the items individually of course.

It reminds me of this Vox pic :

Hmmmm.... food for thought.

It's a great suit but a hard one to match. I might try it with something like a solid black or dark blue knit next time. And no pocket square.

Anyway, back to ties. Picked this one up recently.

Quick question for everyone, do you try on ties in the store? If so, do you take it to a dressing room or just do it on a sales floor near a mirror? I'm going tie shopping soon and it occurred to me I never try them on till I get home. I'm black tie shopping so I'd like to make sure it's exactly what I want before I take it home.

No, don't try them on at the store. Tying it on will crease it up. Hold it up against your shirt while standing in front of a mirror if you need.

You should try them on. How else would one see how they knot

That's what I was thinking, of the stores I've been in it seems kind of taboo but it's that or take it as a return after I've tried it on at home.

You don't need to tie it to see if it is a thin flimsy tie. If it's a thick, quality tie, you'll be able to see just by handling it.

That's what she said

Inferior stores and chain shops will not let you try on ties on your person. Perplexingly, they will allow you to tie a knot in the tie and stare at it on the table.

That's been my experience so far, I was wondering if there's a reason the employees look at me strange when I ask to try it on. Thanks for the input everyone.
