can anyone chime in on LUC knitwear 'robustness'/durability (sweaters, not the thick as hell knit coats) ?

Everything i ve handled in store so far is paper thin... ??

Since the question is brought up, is any designer we discuss within this genre of clothing durable?

Layer-0? CCP? Paul Harnden? Taichi? All of that stuff is built to last.

the brands that generally tend to focus on heavier fabrics, like the ones nicelynice mentioned, are safe bets. really, if it's durability you want, you should be looking at the fabric choice before anything else.

I have to say I really appreciate the reinforcement of the unfinished hems on the Zam Barrett soft J pants, so much so that I'm seriously considering seeing if the same can be added to the (already more frayed) hems of some of the lost & found I have... Seems somewhat contrary to the point but dammit, I don't want them to be TOO frayed.

I didn't say anything else LUC wasn't durable. I'd wager any of the non-knit pieces are just as "tough" as any of the other stuff mentioned here. Who cares anyway?

People for whom $1000 on pants or whatever represents a significant expenditure?

I have lots of raw hem stuff from Zam and he always backs it up with thin ribbon to control the chaos. I've done the same to some of my other raw edge  designer stuff as well. Its pretty easy if you can hold a straight seam with a sewing machine.

Speaking of sturdy...

Zam Barrett SS16 low collar razor coat

60/40 linen cotton resinated surface and canvas backed front panels. first year with Lampo 2 way zips (heavier than most Riri but glide just as clean IMO)
