History. I've had this discussion at length in some old thread, probably one of the few points manton and I were completely agreed on.

Edit: give me some time to dig through and find specific refs

"History" and Manton's agreement? lol8[1].gif

You must have a specific source for your 3 generations claim or you are pulling that out of your ass.

Sure. It seems really specific though, so take your time :-)

A more general, secondary reference, you can see the works of Scott Atran (ex. In Gods We Trust), an anthropologist who was at University of Michigan and the National Center for Scientific Research in Paris:

"No society has ever lasted more than a few generations without a moral foundation that is considered to be true without question but which is not rationally scrutable"
http://www-personal.umich.edu/~satran/PoliSci%2006/Wk%203-B%20%20Religion%20Gandhi%20Atran.pdf

“'I started looking at history, and I wondered why no society ever survived more than three generations without a religious foundation as its raison d’être'”

As it stands, there has been no civilization that lasted beyond 3 generations whose foundations were not built upon a religion.

I bet the only reason their was even a "religion" to begin with is, because those people were high as fuck on psychedelics without really knowing. All these "visions" were probably the result of psychedelics. Now that we know more about science all this religion stuff isn't really that important to a "civilization." We still need someone calling the shots. I do think civilizations will collapse without proper leadership, and rules, laws...etc.

Does the future need to necessarily follow the past? I dare say religion in a high tech global society might not resemble that of religion where people shit in the woods and think lighting is proof the gods are mad at them.

This is a general historical assessment. The future must come out of history, causally speaking (discussion of "time" notwithstanding), whether linear is debatable. Religion need not resemble anything, but ideological foundation alone hasn't helped in the past -- most recently, the Soviet Union.

And we may never know about Iceland and it's upcoming 100% atheist population because rising oceans will cause geological uplift , and as it rises out of water greater volcanic activity will follow and we won't ever reach that crucial 3rd generation data point...

Yeah, I am sure America had nothing to do with that little Soviet experiment failing.

Folklore has always been a big part of nordic culture.

The history you are thinking of.

The Icelandic population also has an app to see if you are related, so you don't sleep with a cousin.

That would probably sell well in many parts of the US, Canada, Scotland, etc.

Iceland's population is smaller than most american cities, so it's a bigger issue there.

Might sell as a dating app in certain regions.

The Rothchilds marry their cousins, and seem perfectly normal.

I just read they're covering nude statues in Italy so as not to offend a Muslim politician when he visits. Seriously, WTF?
