for some reason i just don't like seeing that particular expression abused so much, often by very smart folks (or folks who want to come off as sounding smart). languages evolve, etc., but i'm a grumpy old man when it comes to that, i guess ~_o

This happens pretty rarely. Almost nobody has an anonymous internet persona get doxxed for offensive views and then punished in real life for it, and most of the time when that happens, it's some group like Anonymous and not SJWs.

But the point here, is that when does happen, it tends to be SJWs. Why this is important, as I said earlier, is it gives the impression that there is a disparate impact on folks right of center. The fact LD had to go back to a crazy instance in 2008 to even offer me up something remotely like a left leaning incident goes to show how rare it is for those folks to get put out of a job, etc.

I hear you. I have pet peeves about several similar things - which is one reason I appreciate having my own slips pointed out.

Get a room you two. This isn't how the Internet works. This should be devolving into ad hominem attacks and ultimately one of you threatening to beat the other one up.

It's really not. I didn't go to crazy lengths, it's just that I devoted like 15 seconds total to googling. People are obviously free to form their own opinions. I'm not really inclined to spend hours searching for anecdotal examples that aren't going to change anyone's default beliefs, especially since there's never any way of knowing what happened just before the video started. I could well be wrong, but the fact that I didn't post a bunch of links evidences nothing but my own laziness.

I don't EDIT: disagree with the existence of the phenomena you're talking about, just the degree/magnitude. Are you more likely to get in trouble at work for saying something that the current zeitgeist regards as offensive and morally blameworthy (whether accurately or through some perceived association with genuinely shitty things like racism and sexism)? Sure, duh. But the disparities aren't anywhere near what people suggest, especially if you're talking about people getting fired from jobs in the real world and not just ending up on the wrong side of the Facebook meme war. Just as there's reality to the SJW normative narrative and the excessive use of terms like racism, there's reality to the fact that people who are generally racist, sexist, or just desperate to validate their inherent persecution context overuse the term and concept of "PC" to suggest that any calling out of ignorant or offensive speech and behavior is evidence that the SJW Illuminati have become our new overlords.

Just because the SJWs are coming from the left doesn't make all the victims right of center. It's entirely possible to express sexist (racist/classist/etc) sentiment while still holding primarily left leaning views, or at least to have the offense have nothing to do with your politics. The SJWs aren't exactly concerned with eating their own, any kind of failure of purity means you get thrown to the wolves. Those dudes who got in trouble for making "dongle" jokes at a conference could have been die-hard libs for all we know who just happened to make a slightly off-color joke in front of someone who was ready to be outraged.

Didn't they destroy a left leaning scientists life because he wore a novelty shirt with pin up girls on it?

Haha, out of the corner of my eye I read "pigs" rather than "pin-up girls" and thought "WTF, one of @Mauro's shirts got somebody fired?

Lots of people have been fired for simply stating the truth, a truth that happens to contradict the lefty agenda. Example:

Damn I'm glad I'm left of center. The other side of the line sounds like living hell

It looks like that blew up and then didn't go anywhere. Dude apologized and then everybody moved on. He still has his job and everything.

I was kind of annoyed by that whole thing, if nothing else because he was reinforcing the "socially clueless scientist" trope. I mean, come on man.

Funny, though, that people who are partial to the SJW Uber Alles narrative might remember the outcome being that the guy's life was destroyed. I mean, it's not like people's preconceptions and ever color how they perceive and experience the world.

Watson has always been a rabble rousing asshole, he just pushed one bridge too far with that series of comments. He's objectively wrong and has a pretty well known history of making racist comments. Too fucking bad for him.
