It's probably because people love complaining about shit.

There was a variation in thickness across my original ToJs... I really doubt people are grabbing a pair of calipers and measuring jackets at different spots.

Gave my measurements to Charly and he recommended I go stock. Went stock 47, fit is nice.

How about we promote open dialogue about the brand instead of reverting to the same dogmatic worship of the old TOJ thread.

A person thinking leather might be a bit thin =\ stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars. Nice try on the comparison though.

I don't know what else I can say man. I noted a difference and commented on it.

Look out, the Lord himself has spoken. Or is it the Virgin Mary?

+1 on the open dialogue. I don't see what's wrong with honest comments and concerns. It lets us future potential customers know what's up and prevents future complaints for not knowing what we were getting into the first place. (you gotta admit, the details and fit pics are a bit lacking at the moment, which is normal since falcon just started a couple of months ago)

I mean the thickness throughout the sleeves on my varsity is fairly uniform, but I understand that variations with each hide are inevitable.

What I want to know is:

- Why the wool changed from thick to thin

- When this change was implemented

- If it's possible to get the thicker/fuzzier wool body

Here's a picture comparison...

Left is the V1, right is the TOJ0.  The body is pretty much half as thick, and I can say that the leather is thinner by a noticeable margin as well.

I held off on selling my TOJ0 before receiving my V1 for this very reason; I wanted to compare and contrast.  By comparison, I'm not too thrilled about the thinner materials.  The quality is great, the communication has been great, and the whole order process has been very easy.  I've been pleased with every other aspect of FG aside from this.

Not trying to bitch and moan or throw a hissy fit, but it's only fair for those that have considered ordering to know what they're buying, because I sure as hell had no idea that the jacket was going to be like this when I got it.

I don't know what the specifications are, but in general, unless you are working with very specific MTO with specific needs articulated, it's pretty common for equivalent materials to be substituted.  This is one of those things that just hasn't been adequately addressed as we move from traditional retailing to MTO and preorders.  Previously, these changes would have been opaque to the end customer.  From what it looks like, at least from what little I can tell, the jacket on the left is from a wool twill, while the jacket on the right is made from probably melton, which is typically a woven wool with no bias (unlike twill) that hasa brushed surface.  There are good qualities to each.

When I order MTM or MTO, I am very generally very specific about what I want.  e.g.
Horween heavy steerhide CXL, no less than 3.5 ounces, or 22 ounce melton wool, or Molloy&Sons grey tweed, 650 gsm (then the code).  However, this costs significanly more, and the wait times can be much longer.  You oay one way or the other.  It's really a matter of how high your price resistance is, how much you want a specific style from a specific company, and how patient you are...

I am sorry that you are not completely happy with your jacket.

Things could be worse. At the end of the day the jacket is well made and fits nicely. I ordered the standard sizing and am happy with it.

Just wish some of these expectations were set from the beginning and not from me opening the box.

I think I remember Charly saying there will be a more substantial winter varsity coming out soon? Just throwing it out there.

Got mine in 09/13. It was a little small on me after receiving it so I reordered a size up, and never received it. frown.gif

If we're going to have an open discussion here I'd like to bring up the issue of the veins (sorry, this is probably just as annoying as the zipper debates in the past). Would it not be possible to offer an option where someone could pay more for the option of no veins? Price would take into account the extra hide which would be required, as well as the extra time which would be spent inspecting the hide and planning the cutting of the pattern around the veiny areas.
