I would love if someone could explain the differences more smile.gif. I'm thinking about buying the 4-zip DR2 in black when I start working in the summer.

Edit: I also live in Southern California where it's generally warm(70s or higher) during the year

there are discussions of this in the old toj threads but you have to get inventive w/ the searches to find them. i searched stuff like "site:styleforum.net toj lamb calf goat comparison" and "site:styleforum.net toj lamb calf armor" site:styleforum.net toj lamb calf goat soft"

here's the best one i could find:

Has anyone ordered an olive leather jacket? That and the wine color intrigues me. Im not super knowledgeable in the models of the jackets but there's one that has the angled front zipper in wine and it looked pretty nice.

A cafe racer in either olive or wine would be pretty nice in my opinion

How veiny is the lamb leather? I was told veiny leather is scrap leather and I was surprised but a google search does seem to confirm it.

I was wondering what does FG have to say about the matter?

thats TOJ lamb, thats not "veiny", more like scarring. IDK if in the case of lamb its considered scrap leather but in terms of horse its just scarring/graining and can be really cool. If you don't want that then the you should accommodated but i for one wouldn't mind it.

I wouldn't call it scrap leather. Scrap leather is more so the leather on the edges of the hides where there is uneven thickness and dye inconsistencies.

Veins add character to the leather and, imo, looks awesome.

But none of that really matters now.. due to all a handful of customers complaining, Daniel has sourced the same black lambskin without veins, so we'll be using that going forward. Some of the more recent black lambskin jackets that went out should have had this hide I am referring to. Looks/feels like the old lambskin but without the veins. Sorry to anyone that wanted veins on their black lambskin. There will be no more of that..

Another downside, this new vendor for the new black lambskin is more expensive, so prices will be going up to account for that.

If anyone wants to order a black lambskin jacket at the current price, I suggest you do it soon.

Still the same price at the moment. $830 USD for stock sizes.

There's going to be a price bump soon though. Not only because black lambskin prices have gone up but everything has gotten a bit more costly.

Is it just black lamb that's going up?

well technically all prices went up in general if you take a look at page 1. i ordered in 2012 and price for calf which was more expensive than lamb was $735 (mtm for me) and it was a fair price. now the price for calf is 870 + 40 mtm + shipping 70 (not sure if included) so you are paying $980 for a MTM jacket.

Yeah I know prices went up since the TOJ days. Charly is talking about another increase on top of that. But it's unclear to me if it's just for black lamb or all leathers.

Everything will be going up. Black lambskin might have a slightly bigger jump than the rest.

Black calfskin MTM at the moment is $910. Shipping has always been included in all our prices.

Semi-related since FG uses the same garment makers as ToJ IIRC: I took my ToJ black lamb moto to a clothesmaker in my area to have the sleeves tapered, and she was really impressed by the leather quality (this has some veininess, which I happen to like FWIW) and all her customers who saw it were kinda raving about it. She was also pretty impressed when she cut into the jacket to do the alteration; the stitching and fusing at the cuffs were better (more durable, more work involved) than what she's used to seeing.
