You respond by arguing that none of those instances were genocides, without questioning why the genocide was allowed to occur in the first place.
Put another way, if the United States Army tried to murder all Aghans and the Afghans resisted and prevented it, you would argue that it wasn't a genocide and so it wouldn't count as an instance where citizens with guns prevented a genocide.
