If the technology could be developed to the point where it was reliable enough to trust (and that may never be possible), what's the harm there? Seems like responsible gun owners would want to be able to buy guns that could only be fired by approved users.
I find it incredible that you can believe requiring an ID to vote is a racist pretext, requiring a woman to be informed of the consequences of an abortion is a pretext to deny women their rights, etc., etc., and not even understand how others see this as a pretext...

You know, there are two hundred or so other countries out there. Is our gun lobby preventing them from developing and using these so-called smart guns, too?
The US manufacturers a shit ton of guns and makes a shit ton of money doing it. Why rely on the rest of the world to develop the technology? We have enough accidental shootings and shooting involving stolen guns to justify developing the technology, foreclosing it because paranoids are worried about a slippery slope to NO GUNS FOR ANYONE isn't rational.
