Yeah, it's respected right up until you're trying to catch a train out of Rome and the train workers decide to take on of their "breaks"... cloud.gif

I'm still excited about the ties, though. icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

LoL when I visited Naples I went to a fabric shop for some CMTs I was doing. The sales rep actually said to me: "Yeah we are about to have lunch. Can you come back in 2 hours?" Considering I walked 30 minutes each way to get there and was on vacation...I wasn't exactly thrilled.

Yes, on the flip side if you want top notch of style and fashion you have to come in Italy and be just a bit elastic ... icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

This has to be frustrating for Ed and I don't envy the spot. Still, something's in life are worth the wait so wait we shall do.

I'd add that if someone is a 34 waist and is looking for a deal they might want to consider the deals Ed has going at the moment.

The elaborate email Massdrop wrote to get around saying DELAY was thoroughly amusing once I read the words 'tie makers in Italy' :)

Realistically though, ordering up 300 ties from any maker would probably do number on their production times!

Anyone who has done business with Ed or knows Ian should know they are doing everything they can to get us our ties.  I doubt anyone actually needs their order....so no rush, we will get our awesome ties in due time.

The "funniest is when you are actually there five minutes before noon, and they decide that if they let you in, you will take more than 5 minutes, and that would cut into their lunch hour/afternoon delight, so it's "Please come back at 3 p.m.  Then the place closes at 5:30.  Ostensibly, it says "1800" on the door, but that would cut into happy hour/late afternoon delight.  The stores typically open at around 10 a.m.  That means that an average work day is... 5 hours on the outside, and closer to 4.5 if count the amount of time the doors are actually open.  I've had more than one reasonably successful Italian merchant tell me that their secret was "rudimentary American business practices."  You know, things like... being open the hours they say they are going to be open.

It was astounding to take out a few hundred Euros, cash, and pointing directly at something very specific in the window, making a peading motion, and having the sales assistant (and I use the word assistant very loosely), mime eating, shake his head "apologetically", and then, of all things, open the door and walk right past you to lunch!

I am actually going to contact them today but basically we had an issue manufacturing the fabric and that caused the first delay (the hope was to get these done by end of Oct./early Nov.), we just finished the fabric last week but my tiemakers decided to take 3 days off for no apparent reason confused.gif so the actual tie making won't start to end of this week, early next week. We can do about 100 ties a week, so we are looking at 3-3.5 weeks so a delivery of end of November, plus or minus a week. The original "estimated" delivery date on Massdrop was 11/18 I think so we will be about 2 weeks late from that. I am trying to get these done as soon as possible, but as much as Italy is great at many things, meeting deadlines is not one of them. Apologies, and I sincerely hope that those awaiting ties will think that is was worth the extra wait once they get the ties.

Well, they were tired from waiting for the fabric.

Seriously though, everyone should work with factories at least once in their life to realize that a one month delay is actually pretty close to being on time.

We're working to get this wrapped up ASAP! Ed's previous comment still applies, as far as I know. Thanks for hanging in there - I'm excited for mine too!

Will be updating this thread end of the week/early next week, I'll have a better idea of what a realistic time of arrival will be. As of right now, given my most recent update from Italy (last week), it will almost definitely not be end of this month but no later than second week of December. There will be more ties made between last week and the end of this week, so I'll be given a better picture on delivery.

I know this is 2-4 weeks past original expected delivery date, no excuses for the lateness, we didn't have experience with this size order before so I should have given a later original delivery date (and I've learned my lesson) and we had an earlier fabric issue which added 7-10 days to the process. Once the ties are received by me, I will turn them around to Massdrop in one day, as I can drive to their warehouse, but as of right now you can assume a mid December delivery and hopefully it will be earlier than then.
