As regards your first point, I think that'd be a good thing--posters in both of those fora would be far quicker to bury the spammers. As regards the second point, that's okay by me...it's taken me over 300 posts to decide to sell something. But ultimately, can't the mods just boot a spammer or cut off his thread? Suppose that happened in one of the other non-B&S fora. Wouldn't that slow them down? The key is to slow them down enough to make it a waste of their time to post. Unlike an e-mailing situation, this actually requires several steps to put something up, so if you just added a few more, I think that could do the trick. The question is how many more steps. I'd say 100 posts would be great for spammer deterrence.

I wonder if there's a way to require a minimum number of posts to start a new thread. It wouldn't be a good idea to prevent new members from entering B&S altogether, since they are often the ones doing the buying.

Exactly. I get buyers all the time with no or very few posts. There are a lot of lurkers out there.

Also, a lot of times new members have questions (although usu. not in B&S) or are cross-posting from other sites (like SuFu).

+3.

Almost everything I sell on B&S is somebody with under 100 posts. This is a really, really, big marketplace - the number of lurkers is HUGE.

My suggestion to limit access was only to posting, until you get 35 posts. Potential lurking buyers could still read the forum and communicate through PMs. Limiting posting to those with 35 or more would require a spammer to invest the time into posting 35 messages before leaving their OTO spam. It might slow them down. On another matter. At the time I'm posting this you will find three bumped selling threads, back to back, from the same seller, just below this post. Two of these threads were originally posted within 5 minute of each other. I'm not trying to pick on this one member, we've all been guilty to some extent, but when you have multiple items and especially when they're similar...USE ONE THREAD.

We will think about the minimum post idea, but the truth is that that spammers hit every subforum. For the real spammers (the Nokia dudes, for example) the best thing to do is to report the post, and they will get spamminated. We will deal with other, individual abusers as they arise. PM one of us. We (the mods) rely on snitches

Fok.

okay so ive read some of the rules and want to respect them,BUT i still dont get it maybe im an idiot lol.so lets say i have 4 Sportcoats to sell (all different sizes) do i post it under one thread or can i make a separate post for each one or is that breach of protocol?im a new member so i know i gotta wait for 45 days but still would like some clarification.

Put them all in one. That way you occupy only one spot on the first page, rather than taking up four.
