Corduroy Suit - Page 5

I have a dark tobacco brown one that I'm now selling as it shrunk a bit after a few wearings. Corduroy really NEEDS to be washed prior to being made up it seems. I plan on getting another in that color plus tan as I really like wearing them. Casual, but fun.

I have a navy cord suit which I like very much. I wear the jacket separate quite a bit. This one has a bit of stretch, I guess it's more comfy than straight up cotton, and staves off the shrinkage issue.

I have no expertise and neither have I google university-ied it but my own experience is that cord with some stretch material combined works best. I'm guessing this shrink issue is what it's about.

I normally eschew stretch as it , well, er, um, ........ Er .....stretches and bags and eventually doesn't spring back. You see it at its worst in stretch jeans bagging around the arse and knees.

I like an occasional corduroy suit, best for casual of course.

Used to have a navy pin cord suit and wore it all the time, mainly to casual-ish evening events such as the theatre, meals at local restaurants, parties with vague dress codes when you don't know the hosts that well - the sort of occasions where you may be the only man (or one of very few) in the place actually wearing a suit but it doesn't matter because the fact it's corduroy knocks it down a notch or three on the formality scale. YMMV of course. (I have a replacement in the works).

everyone should have at least 1 corduroy in their lifetime

You mean without a tie? I haven't but I wear the jacket just with an open shirt and jeans. I'd probably wear the suit with a crewneck knit or something, too. While corduroy is a super casual fabric and wrinkles easily, this one also has some sheen so I like for night events. Parties and general carousing.
