Hi all,
I just wanted to share a little story with everyone....
While on a family vacation to Boston I happened upon "The Tannery" and decided to stop in and browse. I grabbed a pair of Alden shells of the shelf & you can perhaps imagine my shock when the owner himself approached me and started cursing & insulting me while shouting across the store. When mentioning that I was retired, I was called "marsupialed". When I stated I was in Boston for tourism he insulted all tourists and claimed they weren't welcome because he makes his money from locals. The F word was used at least 20 times. When mentioning that I'm from Chicago but living in Switzerland I was treated to a 5 minute rant against the Swiss & all of Europe (how pleasant for my 3 & 7 year old Swiss daughters let alone my Swiss wife). After 15 minutes or so of this I decided to leave without making a purchase. At $700 a pair this isn't the type of service I expect (nor would I at $100 a pair).
Upon a bit of online investigation it appears this guy is well known for this type of behavior & Boston residents have apparently staged a protest of his business due to such behavior in addition to numerous complaints as to racism (I'm caucasian).
I'm not sure what standards Alden demands of their retailers (if any) but I would sincerely hope that they would not wish to be associated with such a person or their business.
Any other incidents out there with this guy?
