What do you think of this combination?

I have a medium-dark french blue spread collar shirt and a charcoal suit. What do you think of this combination for a wedding I must attend next weekend? I would pair this with a predominantly navy tie. I would appreciate any opinions for or against this combination. Thanks.

You need some contrast and pattern in the tie. Sounds rather dark and almost monchromatic to me.How about a predominantly yellow tie with a pattern ?

A daytime or an evening wedding? How formal is the wedding?

It is an evening wedding, however I am not sure how formal it is. It is the wedding of two people whom I have never met, and my girlfriend has not spoken to in over a year, yet we are required to go. I too was thinking that it was too dark and will probably just go charcoal suit/white shirt. When the shirt arrived from the ebay seller I was a little disappointed that it was much darker than it appeared in the auction listing. Thanks for your help. Have a good one, Ben.

hopkins student-- The point of wearing the more conservative white shirt is that it does not call attention to itself.  This is appropriate--unless, of course, the wedding is your own.

I have an aversion to French blue shirts except worn as casual, workshirts with jeans. It is a striking color, but chalk it up to overkill. It's nearly as ubiquitous as the lame guy with the untucked blue striped shirt with Khakis or relaxed fit jeans and black shoes. If you're a striking looking guy, you can wear the combination and look cool (use your objective assessment here.) If you are a regular guy, and especially if you are bordering on yuppie-dom, eschew the combination.

I have to agree with LA Guy here. Super-French blue shirts have been REALLY overdone in the past few years. Choose carefully. Don't go with too deep (dark) a blue, or one that is oversaturated or shiny.
