Hair strippers?

My hair has a considerable amount of buildup from years of gel and pomade abuse. Any suggestions on an at-home treatment? Possibly something I can do once a month or so?

Any suggestions on how to strengthen my hair? Money is tight, I'm just finishing up school.

Thanks!

Obviously I've tried different forms of shampoo. I get mixed answers every time I go in for a haircut, so I've pretty much given up on that at this point.

Shave your head. Begin afresh.

I would imagine your hair doesn't really have that much buildup so I'd recommend Abba's Molasses clarifier and Moisture Scentsation afterwards or Aveda's Hair Detoxifier and a conditioner afterwards.

Any salon's products should be pretty good. You just want to look for a clarifier and a moisture conditioner for afterwards. Use it once or twice a month and you'll be set in the future.

So do you think this would be a better alternative then some kind of vinegar mix (or something along those lines)?

Neutrogena's clear shampoo is made for this. I doubt any buildup you have can match the kind of gunk and crap women pile onto their manes. Don't use too much of it, it'll strip your hair down to the core. Maybe two days in a row at most. Rinse with some vinegar once or twice, then water.

The buildup you're concerned with could actually be from really hard water, though. When I lived in San Diego, my hair would get crunchy after a couple of days there. In such a case, then you definitely want to rinse with white vinegar for several washes in a row.

Thanks for the suggestion! It's definitely not hard water, I live with my parents in a newer (<5 years) house. Luckily that's no issue. I'll pick some of this up tomorrow! Ironically I'm giving shampoo another try. I've never used this brand though. I think doing this in combination with vinegar might do the job.

This thread is worthless without pictures of hairy strippers.
