I dug up the exact quote. It was actually from Guy, not Brett. Here it is:

"The real issue with the 110 (i have two pairs of boots on it that i still wear) is the waist and the heel. It was never really designed for casual wear. The people who have been really vocal about it seem to prefer the width in the forefoot, but i'd be surprised if anyone was getting the right fit through the ankle area. Also, the shape just simply doesn't work with some of our new patterns and options. At this point we can only utilize it on a couple of styles."
Sounds to me that the problem is it's not a ubiquitous last for most Viberg styles.....

But for the garage boot and the half japanese it seems perfect for those. Perhaps the fat waxed too as both the garage boot and fat waxed (shoot the h.j. too) are born to have the **** kicked out of them. I understand his direction.

A chukka maybe falls out of that philosophy?

I wish my 3 110's would ship already so I can lay this to rest in my head.

I have a pair of 110 service boots - my MTO. They are pretty roomy throughout. For the most part, I like my foot wear to fit loosely, so this works for me. However, ther is no doubt that my 2030 lasted boots conform to my foot more.

The chukka CAN be built on the 110 last. Nigel Cabourn's "broad arrow" chukkas are built on that. However. they do look a little cloddish. For Nigel, this is his look. uilt on a crepe sole rather than a wedge Vibram sole, the chukka would look less clumpy, but it would definitely not be as slim as the chukkas that McQueen is wearing. The 2030 fits nearly exactly the same as the trickers 4497 last, with the exception of a slightly narrower toe. Hardly an "elegant" boot. However,

Just thought I'd chime in with my input. I have three boots on the 2030 and it is one of the best lasts for MY feet. One of my favorite lasts across all brands. I have one pair on the 2045 and I wouldn't get another boot on it.

I actually like the looks of the 110 but am really concerned about all the talk of the extra wide heel. I have normal to narrow heels and don't want my heels sloshing around.

The debate is pointless. It's all subjective and a matter of preference. Let's just see what the majority want.

Makes sense Fok and I agree. I don't really like the chukkas with that chunky Vibram wedge sole. That's probably why I like mine on the dainite. But I think you're right...the crepe would probably be a great look too, less clumpy.

Right.

Out of curiosity, how narrow across is your heel. My worry is the same as yours with my incoming GMTOs...Thanks.

Right.

Do you mean how wide as in inches or like Alden assigns like a "B" heel width? I don't think I've ever really measured my heel. Lol

The other concern with the 110 is the wide waist. I have higher arches and so prefer narrower waists to give more arch support.

I'd come over and let you try on my 110's, but you're just out of range! And you're absolutely right...it is all subjective and a matter of preference.

Rydenfan, I'm on my way over to your house right now...get your socks ready!

Fok.

Any progress on the ECHO boot design?

Thanks.
We talked about it, but are still trying to figure out how to do white midsoles without object dyeing, which is the way Guidi does it.

You guys do not have to worry about the heel, it is not cavernous. My D width foot and very average heel slots in perfectly. Unless you have unusually narrow heels, I sincerely doubt you will have a problem anymore than you would on any of the other lasts. The toe box is where you'll notice more room.

Maybe I'll try to swing a trip to Victoria next year and hope to try on a few different lasts.
