Any love for a black unicorn roughout pain toe service boot?

This is the most interesting leather on the list that we have available this round. How many ppl have elk leather vibergs? Also, black roughout boots by viberg are rare as well. Win win

Just to clarify, it's moose, not elk. Moose is tough and thick without much give, which is perfect for a boot. Elk, while it has good tensile strength, is extremely pliable, and ime, is only good for footwear like sneakers and mocassins.

As for the black unicorn being the most interesting leather of the special leathers, I think that a lot of them are really quite cool. The most immediately eyecatching are the tan horse and the italian grey calf, but a lot of them are interesting and depend on your taste. In terms of a really thick nap roughout and a really strong (but small) grained side, black unicom is pretty great, though. If we are going to make a black boot, I think that it's a more interesting choice than most black leathers.

If this is CF stead moose unicorn leather, then it would be elk as mentioned on their website.

So it's not actual unicorn hide? I'm disappointed. It could have given the boots unnaturally long life.

Not that I'm committing to vote for a makeup in the unicorn hide, but my preference would be to use the grain side. It would make it more distinguishable and unique rather than just black "suede" or roughout. But all subjective, of course.

Yup, you're right. I am an idiot! I just assumed that moose meant... moose?

Must be their Swedish roots: "elg" in Swedish is a moose, not an elk. I know, because I ate it in Stockholm once!

But did you look at the roughout side? Its not just black suede or roughout. Look at these, the only other unicorn leather shoes made as far as I know

That doesn't look like the beige calf. That is another calf that is no longer available, I think it has a higher sheen. The grey Italian calf, definitely, since I saw those boots at the factory. About the black, it's impossible to say from the photo. If color is hard to capture, black is even harder. Yes about the purple calf. I have that, but was not able to get a good picture. It's a "dusty grape" if that makes sense.

Cheers,

Fok.

Apparently it's beige calf:

On Friday, July 3 at Noon (PST) we will be releasing four versions of our Service Boot in Italian Calfskin: Beige, Grey, Charcoal and Plum. Built on the 2030 Last and featuring a Blind Eyelets, a Dainite Sole and a Natural Split Welt.

@conquerorsquid

Also it's cool to be the inspiration for the derby you guys are trying to make. Glad I got mine at sample sale price! Good luck to everyone's proposals, I will probably be sitting out this round.

The black roughout is similarly deep, but obviously without the color variation that comes from the direction of the nap at any one time, for obvious reasons. The grain side is like a small grained bison, and both sides are very soft.

You may be right, but either the picture is really not representative, or it's a different leather with a similar name. Based on the fact that I saw all those boots, I'm guessing on the second. Both leathers are nice, but the one we have on hand is a little more matte, a little ticker, and a the tones are someone different.

The nap is definitely a lot richer and more plush than pretty much any roughout I've seen.
