Viberg's 83 Classic Workboot Engineer (Workboot.com) looks an awful lot better than the CXL Engineer on Viberg.com. Is the $250 difference in price mainly due to the sole?

Hopefully we can get a god damn 310 made. The Engineer is intriguing too.
The leather is a lot better, or at least, more interesting. The Workboot line is great if you want a workboot for construction or firefighting or whatever, but they neither have that "vintage workwear" nor "fashion" feel that the boots on Viberg.com have, and are the reason that people seek them out.

As the name implies, I'm inspired by the Sample & not following exactly the Sample. Adjustments here & there to suit my or others' needs. Plus, this is a GMTO & not a single MTO, so there's give & take.

The thing about last is, it's never going to satisfy everyone. Everyone has their favourite last. With 2 members saying that they preferred the 2030, I just nailed it down.

It's not up to me to decide if my proposal goes into the voting round & finally having it done. It's up to the members here.

If the 2030 is what the people want, then give the people what they want. :) There'll be plenty of opportunities for other cool stuff.

But....to me the sleek angular shape of the 2030 looks off with the sort of rural, mottled look of the beige cafe leather. I couldn't find any derby shoes on the 2030 last, but here's a boot on the 2030 last, unstructured toe:

And another:

Here's the sample again to refresh folks, on what I believe is the 1035 last, structured toe:

Hmmmm.....? :)

^ I guess the toe cap with pinking has to be structured. I'll finalise the specs.

outside of the brown, grey & black parade is there any other colors available in unusual leathers...

a burgundy or #8 roughout or latigo
lighter navy(one that does not look black) grain or rough out
Olive Green(not olive brown) in anything

What's the ping pong structuring that was mentioned earlier?

I didn't see any blues or olives in the house, but a number 8 may be possible. I do not know whether the number 8 would be treated so that the roughout side could be used. (and I doubt it would be so)

That's just the branded name for the partial structuring material in the toe. I just mentioned it because I thought that it sounded cool.

'Just sharing my limited experience re: Sizing & Choosing Appropriate Last: • From a denimhead point of view, I find the 1035 & 2005 lasts as the "Midrise Slim" in the Viberg Lastdom__ they're the middle ground, the confluence of widths, IMO. • 2005 is an [esthetic] alternative for peeps who can't fit a 2030. **If you walk on the wide side, TTS for partially & fully structured; SU 1/2 for unstructured__ cuz leather will collapse to shape of feet @post break in. • Any type of toe caps can be unstructured__ although, on derbies, caps [or plain toes] look much better if they're @least partially structured. • 2030 on Engineer's is an abomination. • 2045 is the most versatile= looks x comfort__ & 1035 for more "casual", less work-type steeze__ ie, especially for peeps w/ width issues.
I think your proposal will look quite different from the sample, which is what I'm aiming for. The sleek 2030 look never really suited me, and it doesn't fit the forepart of my foot well either, so there's that too. Making the toe unstructured exacerbates the problem. It is a popular look, though, and I'm sure some will go for it.

The only thing that I'm not too sure till now is, if the toe cap with pinking can be unstructured or must it be partially structured? I want to have all the specs 101% confirmed before it goes into the elimination & voting round. So Fok, maybe you can advise?
Would you consider putting the Hopper in the 2030 last instead of 2005? I'd go in if it's in the 2030.
I believe the boot will lose its aesthetic appeal if built on the 2030 last. Someone mentioned earlier the 2005 is similar to the 2030 but more forgiving. The toe on the 2005 is just right for an engineer and the curvature on the outer part of the forefoot is perfect. The 2030 will give it a different vibe completely.
So to answer your question and I respect your suggestion. No, I am holding firm with the 2005 for the Hopper Engineer. Those who like the 2030 will probably like the 2005 as well. Change it up and go with the 2005. Viberg gets these things right and the 2005 is there gold standard engineer last. After all, they are the experts…

^ 'Got same heel slip issue on the 110 cuz I'm prolly E-EE up front & C-D @heel.
So, it depends on the built__ I'm good on lace up service boots, but does not work for me on chukkas, engineers, & derby shoes.

Awesome. Maybe that's something we could throw on the grey service boots if the people that are interested are down?

Very nice....Any pics in the wild? Do you wear them on your Schwinn? I'm kidding!

I would totally be wearing them on my Schwinn, but these aren't mine unfortunately. I stumbled upon the photos and started drooling! Just had to share!
