I don't know, there is nothing sleek or elegant about any Viberg makeup regardless of last - you are talking about a stitchdown boot that has a big footprint with a huge lace space between the left and right eyestay so the tongue is a prominent component - regardless of leather how is any of this affected by a little pull tab in the back? Outside of the getting caught on the pants which I do understand.

On a different last I would get this - only reason is that I have three 2030 service boots and would like to branch out-

Whoever created pull tabs should be burned at the stake.

Hey Fok, how many times do you do these a year?
Three or four, but I tend to not redo makeups or do variants on an already done makeup unless there is a huge groundswell (I'm talking 10+ people with money in hand)

If it weren't for the pull tab, Gandalf would be my grail boot. I tried drumming up support twice during the proposal stage... seeing all this 11th hour agreement bums me out a bit. Is there any precedence for alterations/subdivisions of orders at this point?

Edit: didn't the Bison Scout Boot get split up into ripple/mini-ripple orders last round?
So.. there is precedence, but it does take commitment. The votes right now are for the boot, as is. If you'd all wanted something different earlier, you should have talked about it and made a concerted push before the voting period. Right now, what it would take is for people to purchase the boot, as is, and then enough people to both:

1) Have enough for the original makeup to go forward
2) Have enough people specifying that they'd like the variant in the order notes, IF POSSIBLE, for the variant to ALSO go forward. This would mean that everyone would be committed to the SAME variant. So, if someone wanted no pull tab and a green tongue, that person may have *********** entire group.

I'm not going to be in charge of this, and the order will be binding, so it would be up to those who really want the variant to rally the troops, coordinate amongst themselves, etc...

Cheers,

Fok.

Looks off to me. What's next pull tabs with wingtips on a semi-dress type boot
Trickers does a lot of these (usually longwings), and they look really cool. The Heschung Malko, (a go to of mine) is an old model that was made for hiking in the Alsace countryside, is also built like this, and incidentally, on a crepe sole, which is very useful on a hiking boot. They might not be to your tastes, but they are very common in traditional "country" boots. Remember than brogueing is traditionally a casual detail.

Here is a picture of the Malko:

Alright so maybe we can get a head count of Gandalf voters who would like NO pull tab, as well as those who did not vote but would without the tab?

Thanks for the reply Fok!
Quick follow up question: would the order note need to be included in the pre-order? A number of users with the pull-tab concern (myself included) have already placed Gandalf pre-orders.

I'm willing to help organize this movement. I have a limited amount of time (which I will gladly donate here) however if other users would like to assist, that would be greatly appreciated.

It would seem to me that the best (most promising) route is to agree that the ONLY modification is the exclusion of a pull-tab.

but which would you expect to see a pull tab to look better on?
There's nothing wrong with a pull tab on a Viberg, but in combination with a brogue cap toe it just looks awkward. Another thing to consider is that the Galway has a thin fabric pull tab vs. the thick leather pull tab on the Viberg that more easily gets caught on pants.

So, no, the only place you'd have to put the note is in the actual order.
