I've noticed a dearth of offerings of 38 short suits on here, ebay, and online sellers - perhaps there's always a lack of supply, but I'm in the market for a suit in a more conservative color in that size - my price limit is about $500-600. If anyone has any suggestions as to where to look or has any for sale, please do let me know!

Thanks.

Not totally on point, but I'll be putting a few 38s sportcoats up for sale later tonight or early tomorrow morning.

Maybe try www.thickasthievesla.com, which is run by SF member Get Smart (Jason). (You can send him a PM.) TaT makes suits per your measurements from a variety of fabrics and colors, including many conservative ones. From my own correspondence with Jason, his standard cut is more modern (thin lapels, short jacket, slim cut), but he can make suits in a more conservative style as well. The suits are fully canvassed and are in your price range.

BN: I do not have a TaT suit, but I plan on ordering one later this week.

See if my Canali suits measurements could possibly work. It's got a 28.75 inseam on the pants. 24" coat sleeves and and a 31.5" coat length. http://www.styleforum.net/showthread.php?t=50005 It might be a long shot but you could save quite a bit of money (I'm asking $195), and the suit is truly as new.

landho, I've certainly considered TaT in the recent past - perhaps I'll revisit that idea and have my measurements taken at a tailor. Oh, and only thing I want conservative about the suit is the color!

rnoldh - great suit! Unfortunately, the 31.5" length on the jacket kills it for me. Thanks for the thought though!

Hi, just noticed your posts here at work and if you two are interested, PM me and when I get home will send scans of three suits I am contemplating selling. I now wear 36 - 37S and these 3 suits are 38S. To pique your interest, here's what I can recall of the suit details:

1. Polo Ralph Lauren Blue Label Charcoal Pinstripe Polo II fully canvassed model made by Corneliani in a luxurious 3 season wool. Features are: 3 ( I need to check this at home) button SB, notched lapel, side vents, side tab waist, cuffed pleated trousers and pick stitching flourish on the lapels and elsewhere. This is a snug 38S cut jacket almost like the Purple Label fit. Purchased from a Style Forum member new with tags and never worn. This is a power business suit. The extent of tailoring I had done by Cardelino here in NYC is limited to sleeve length alteration, working handsewn cuff buttonholes and trouser cuff. $300.

2. Polo Ralph Lauren Blue Label 3 button peak lapel fully canvassed model in a brown/grey (imagine a color like a Starbucks latte) nailhead wool made by Corneliani. Features are: 3 button SB, side vents, side tabs waist for trousers. This is a normal 38S cut jacket with a nice waist, cuffed pleated trousers and pick stitching detailing. Purchased from a Style Forum member new with tags and worn once. The extent of tailoring I had done by Cardelino is sleeve length alteration, working handsewn cuff buttonholes, take in trouser waist and trouser leg hem. $200.

3. Bergdorf Goodman Grey Flannel pinstripe suit made by Saint Andrews in a winter weight wool. I think it is 90's vintage, is definitely fully canvassed and custom tailored; fit is nicely waisted with great shoulders. Other features are: 2 button stance, notched single lapel, no rear vent, surgeon cuffs and cuffed pleated trousers. The suit is pre-owned from eBay with no wear and worn by me once. $200

I also have several trench coats and trousers on the block.
