Alexandre?

Greetings gentlemen, it's been a while since I last posted . . . Our local Marshall Field's, in addition to recently getting a Thomas Pink satellite, now also has suits by a company called "Alexandre", who claims an address on the Row, and a Royal Warrant. I have to sheepishly admit that I've never heard of them, and haven't been in to take a look yet. From what I can gather from friends and ads, the price points are fair, $800 to $1500+, and the suits are canvassed, and have a little bit of hand-stitching. Still, something about this company and their offerings (which again, I have not seen) smells fishy to me. Has anybody tried their wares? What do you think? Who the heck are they?

Here's a link to Alexandre's listing in the British Menswear Guild. The clothes seem quite flashy. http://<a href="http://www.british-m...emberID=16</a>

Nice to see a familiar name. Have you seen the store? It's at MF in Somerset.

Haven't seen the store, because I rarely visit Somerset (1 1/2 hours away from my house), and then only for Hermes ties at Neimans. Used to come more for the legal seminars close by and then would visit after the seminars, but (shamefully) haven't been to any for a number of years. Very doubtful I'd pay retail for a suit at Field's anyways. Best Regards

For what it's worth, I have an Alexandre tweed jacket of my father's that was made for him back in the late 60s. It's a workhorse. I haven't deconstructed it, but from wearing the jacket I don't think that it's entirely canvas. I suspect a made-to-measure sort of thing. Still, no bubbles, buckles, fraying, etc. . I think they had a contract to sell in the AAFES PX's and that's where he picked one up. Don't know if the company has changed hands since then.

i checked out the troy (detroit) marshall field's store this past weekend and the alexandre suits and spoke very briefly with the rep there (he was the only one working and was busy - an englishman who has been transported from one of their london stores) the suits are fully canvassed and have working sleeve button holes, very traditional cut, decent selection of decent looking suits; the highest priced model they had at the troy store was US$995.00
