Thanks everyone.

I've passed on the various suggestions, specifically the one that was my first reaction, don't bother with Merlot. Will try to find out what he went for and give his views.

So I found out from my friends wife that the Merlot was intended for me as a christmas gift, thankfully it has not been purchased yet and I will instead be getting a nice bottle of scotch.
