This was a gift from my boss. I kept it for a few months before I just sold it. It is pretty solid. Made in USA. You can't beat the quality. If I needed a sterling silver money clip I would buy a...

Kitchen appliances - what do you use?

I know nothing about Kenmore products, but the pictures in the link look pretty nice. I tend to use Sunbeam, primarily because all my parent's kitchen appliances are Sunbeam. All their stuff is older than I am (yes, they're still using a blender and mixmaster that are at least 35 years old) and is still going strong, despite being used at least once a week. I now use the Sunbeam Cafe Series (don't know if it's available in the US or if it goes by the same name) as it seems to be well made and has a pleasant, minimalist appearance to it - brushed stainless steel or aluminium exteriors, thick glass jug for the blender, strong and simple switches. Have a look here - http://www.cafeseries.com.au/ I don't know if my Sunbeam appliances will last for as long as mum's appliances (as the saying goes, they just don't make things like they used to), but I'm hoping that I'll get a good few years out of them.

Our food processor and mixing stand are Kitchen Aide. Good stuff IMO. Probably my favorite device in the whole kitchen is the dough hook on the mixing stand. The toaster oven is a Cuisinart digital from CostCo. Get the "double decker" model whatever you do. Very handy thing, from crisping left over pizza to baking a meatloaf to roasting garlic. It just can't be beat for usefulness.

+1 Stick with Consumer Reports and Cooks Illustrated for the kitchen stuff. They know their shit. I'd go with either Cuisinart or Panasonic for the TO.

Here's my inner kitchen snob: I've got the KitchenAid Pro 5, which is a step down from the top line Pro 6. It's more mixer than I need, and sometimes I'm almost frightened of its awesome mixing power. But at the same time, sometimes I'm tempted to sell it and upgrade to the Pro 6. Why? Because it's the Pro 6. It's the kitchen equivalent of the amp that goes to 11.

Can you just see dwarven "druids" dancing around it?Quote:

Haha...I think this is why my uncle bought this for his wife. He told me that for some types of mixing with sticky rice and the like, the Pro 5 version just couldn't handle it. I suspect otherwise.

I've used a Kitchenaid mixer and a Cuisinart food processor for over thirty years and they do any job you can think of. For me they are the Rolls Royce of appliances. Go to any professional kitchen and that is what you will see.I also have an Oster blender that has served me well for forty years.

Only if it's carefully placed so as not to loom over the mis-sized, papier-mache Stonehenge ...
Our toaster oven sucks (http://www.blackanddeckerappliances....duct-179.html). Got it over Christmas when the trusty old Toastmaster started to get finicky. What a fucking mistake -- this thing is spacious, but s-l-o-w for virtually every application. It also toasts unevenly. Fuck.

Bump. I am looking for recommendations for kitchen containers to store stuff. I have a lot of spices and herbs, plus grains, beans, flour and rice that need to be stored in nice containers. Anyone have any recommendations? Thanks
For grains/pasta/beans, I use a container set from Bed, Bath, and Beyond. They are stout, made from heavy glass and have a brushed aluminum top. For spices, I personally like the magnetic spice containers that stick to metal on a wall. Good color and presentation, handy, and I don't particularly like spice racks that take up counter space.
