Misaligned pinstripes on trousers

Thread Starter
Greetings, Found this site (along with ask Andy and a few others) some weeks ago and have been lurking a bit. Good to know there are others that still care about clothes and appearance... apologies now for what will probably be a lot of posts in the next couple of days. A few years ago at Barney's Warehouse sale I purchased a (made in Switzerland) Zegna suit: dark gray with pinstripes. The stripes themselves are a little difficult to describe: each is a pair of light gray stripes flanking a single, almost white single thread stripe - the effect is subtle and the stripe is actually raised from the surface. I haven't had the suit tailored yet because I noticed the stripes on the trousers don't align properly. That is, where the legs are joined in the seat, the stripes do not meet. The leg pieces come together so the stripes are offset by about half the distance between the stripes. My other patterned trousers are pretty well matched. Thoughts on this? Is it worth getting this tailored and wearing it? How bad would this look? I have no idea how I missed this in the store, I am usually maniacal about details like this (perhaps this is why the suit made it to the warehouse sale?) Thanks, John

Yep, the misaligned stripes is probably a reason why they were on sale. Matching the stripes on the trouser seat isn't tough to do. They should indeed line up properly. On the other hand, no one's going to be staring carefully at your butt to tell.
