Since I'm still waiting for Chan to rectify my recently received suit, I've decided to put my business with them on hold, canceling the order I placed last week. In their absence, I've opted to explore a semi-local option: Nick Lopez Tailoring, located in Houston's Galleria area. They're probably the best known of Houston's tailors (with the exception, of course, of Hamilton, which does only shirts). I called yesterday to check them out. Jackets are full canvas. Full bespoke with individual patterns. All tailors on the premises. I set up an appointment for this morning. After rifling through a number of fabric books, I gravitated again to the Holland & Sherry Perennial Lite, this time opting for a glen check with the dark tan windowpane. I'm going for a two-button SB notch. Total cost for a two-piece was $1,700, about $425 more than Chan. The cutter took extensive measurements, with both my Chan jacket on and off. I'll have a basted fitting (the first of at least two) in about three weeks or so. A few pictures: The view of the entry area from the second floor. It's interesting how cutting is done right in the window. Fabric books. More fabric. The tailoring room, on premises. Getting measured. More measurements. Our intrepid photographer, young Miss Vintage Gent.

That is a very nice price for what will surely be a high-quality garment.

Jeez I need to find a place with tailoring on premises. Is that common? $1700 sounds completely reasonable for something like that.

indeed. a local tailor has MTM suits *starting* at $900. he tried to sell me on them, yabbering on about their quality and fit, when he couldn't even measure me correctly for a MTM shirt (way too baggy, seems to be an "american" fit).

I agree given the economics that is a very very good price.

Some pictures from the first fitting, earlier today. All in all, I'm pleased with how things are going. The jacket needed a bit more waist suppression, but I expected that, and the back needed cleaning up, but otherwise a very solid job.

Looks very good so far. Proper back for suspenders, good lining up of lines in fabric without sacrficing proper fit, etc. Definitely buy more at that price if your budget can handle it.
