I'll be traveling to Italy in August (Venice, Rome, Florence, Siena, Pisa, Bologna/Parma, Milan, some of the northern lake region) and I endeavor to avoid looking too touristy (minus the camera around my neck). Any thoughts or suggestions on popular Italian sneaker/comfortable shoe brands in Italy right now (edit: planning to wear these with chinos mainly, possibly shorts if it is oppressively hot)?

I know its going to be exceptionally warm during the trip, so any overall casual clothes suggestions would be welcomed as well.

Ciao!

I would also be interested in any responses to this very good post....I put up a similar post last week but did not get any response.

I can start you off suggesting you take a general look at some us euro style brands like mephisto and ecco. Ecco has a lot but here is one:

i just ordered to this one from lowa- also a european brand...http://www.lowa.de/en/products/outd...an_Francisco_GTX_Lo&ArtikelNr=310800_7801&L=1

The Lowa has not arrived yet but im in the same market as you...even contemplating trying to find a pair when i get to florence since i know the city is dotted with shoe stores....maybe this one from from leonardo's:

1) If you really don't want to look like a tourist, avoid chinos. I barely ever see anyone wearing chinos outside of NA. Lighweight, slim denim, seems to be the thing, even in the heat.

2) Philippe Model or Golden Goose, or if you like a more minimal look, Common Projects, Ami, Our Legacy, are all popular sneaker brands/styles throughout parts of Europe. If you really want to be on trend, it's Stan Smiths. They are everywhere. Again, not worn with chinos though. Slim wool trousers, tech/fashion pants, and denim, yes.

3) For shirts, just tees and popovers will get you through the heat.

Regardless of what you wear, you WILL look like a tourist. I don't know why that bothers......tourists.

Agree with the chinos advice. Don't wear them in Italy....or the US.

Being Chinese it was difficult to try and blend in, though trying to speak a bit of Italian does really help break the ice.

These are great tips, thanks everyone!

I know I'll definitely look like a tourist, but if I can be less of a target, then why not. Plus, I am US-born of Italian descent, I speak Italian (more or less) so I can make it work :slayer:

Very interesting on the chinos advice. I swore I read somewhere that colored (not khaki) chinos (lightweight) were what everyone wore in the summer. I'll definitely re-think that idea!
