Alexander Julian started a line of clothing called "Private Reserve" that is made in Portugal. I can't tell you anything about it from first hand experience, but the prices appear to be comparable with Joseph Abboud's popular-priced line, about $495 for coats, $695-$895 for suits. I have no idea what stores might carry, or what they might be thinking if they did.
There was a newspaper article about him a month or so ago. Actually, it may have been an article in the Wine Spectator, since the article described that the name "Private Reserve" had its genesis in his side business of making/enjoying wine and a picture of him drinking a glass of wine. As I recall, the article gave the names of some of the stores that would be carrying his new line -- all I remember is that I was impressed by the stores -- some big names (incl. some big dept. stores as well as specialty stores like Stanley Korshak and Louis Boston). They had some pix of some of his shirts - the style is very colorful, similar to his 1980s line "Colours" (of which I still have a polo shirt that I wear and enjoy), but more upscale I think.
IMHO The Alexander Julian shirts are some of the ugliest shirts out there. Right up there with the double collars. The details are quirky to the point of being annoying. I have no problem with interesting details on a shirt, but his shirts have to many weird touches. Carl www.cego.com
