But you know what, a Hyundai dealer franchise has been the hottest thing for the last 10 years.

This car is a little Fast and Furious, but nevertheless Hyundai is kicking it up a few notches. They have certainly come a long way since the '80s. If you told me that a Hyundai Tiburon would look like this in 10 years back in '99, I'd tell you you're insane. In any case, Detroit should be ashame Hyundai is eating their lunches.

Well, they had nowhere to go but up. They churned out disposable piles of shit for a loooong time.

It looks decent... seems to take a lot of G35 styling queues IMO. The fact that it's going to be a RWD rocket for $30k is interesting.

All I know about Hyundais is that they're huge, Styleforum, HUUUUUUGE.

Haha...I hate that fucker. He makes the typical buy-here-pay-here used car guy look good, and that's no easy feat.

If you can get it off the lot for under 30K and it handles, it should be a big success. It seems like it'll basically be a G37 or 3-series coupe without all the luxury elements, which is a great idea. If the 3-series didn't have as nice an interior, I'd still buy one. This is the kind of car you can buy in Europe (albeit usually with forced induction) from several carmakers but not in the U.S., because American buyers demand a luxury interior at that pricepoint before they demand no-frills performance. I just hope they don't overdo it with the boy-racer import styling/details.

I've been watching this car for a while now and I think it is really exciting. I hate when people say "it's just a Hyundai" or when talking about Lexus "it's just a Toyota" etc. Who cares what brand it is, I'm sure it will be more reliable and carry a better warranty than most brands costing $20K more while looking as good if not better and having decent performance numbers. They will most likely edit some of the car for production, I'm assuming a less crazy front fascia, hood, and obviously color scheme. If this car has decent performance to back up the looks I would easily take it over a G35, 350Z, and 328i.

+1. Too many companies trade on reputation and not on current performance. Jaguar comes to mind, Mercedes in the 90s too. I'm long on Hyundai. It's been improving its quality with each new model and has the ambition, focus & resources to vie with the Japanese and the Germans. What I've noticed is that this dismissal of Hyundai (and the other Korean car companies) is often expressed by several of my Korean-American friends; not sure if Koreans feel the same way. I can only speculate why but this model should change some of that bias.

When I bought my Sonota in late 05 I was one of the first in my home city to have the new model. To date I am still very pleased with the buy. It was cheaper and nicer the the comparable Japanese models. The Germans were crazy with price for a similar size with similar power. North America is near a joke when you look at the midsize market.

Fine car and a fine make. I'd look at that car for sure.

Boy Hyundai has come a long way. Car looks sweet but they have a penchant for ripping off other styles, this looks like a Lexus/Toyota rip to me. "But it's a Hyundai." People used to say but it's Japanese. Now look who owns the automotive world. I agree with Dark, Hyundai is all over Detroit's lunch.

Saying, "It's just a Hyundai" is not equivalent, nor did I say, a Lexus is just a Toyota. I lease a Lexus and will probably head back into the big Lexus SUV again, as a new model is coming out in the next several months, based around that excellent new engine in the Tundra. However, I would never buy/lease a Toyota.

Here's the thing: if you buy/lease a Hyundai, that means you have to deal with their service department. I frankly do not want to have to spend time in a waiting room with the likely people that own Hyundais. Nothing against them, but I just do not want to spend time in a Hyundai, Toyota, Nissan, Chevy, etc. service area.

I want to be able to drive up, hand the valet my keys and he hands me the keys to a suitable service loaner. I want to be in and out in 15 minutes with a nice loaner, such as Lexus, which keeps a fleet of new Lexus, just for loaners. If I should have to spend time there, say for a quick oil change, I want a quiet, adult friendly area, complete with decent coffee, bottled water, etc., and no brats running around out of control, etc.

Some people buy/lease a vehicle. Some people buy/lease the entire ownership experience. I am one of the latter.

So yeah, it's still just a Hyundai to me.

mmhmm. Goes for all Korean car makers. Kia Amanti. Looks vaguely familiar.. Like a Mercedes? But then again, the Japanese are old hats at derivative German styling. LS400 MB S class clone. I think the Germans started peeling back the headlight and now the Asians have gone crazy with the slant eye, peeling it back to damn near the windshield. What's funny is that the new BMW 1 and 3 series looks like a current Elantra from the rear.
