anyways, i just got my pair of darlton wingtips from polo today along with some martino ankle boots, both in size 12. i ordered them weds nite around 11pm pst, techinically before the sale even began. i flipped out when i saw the darltons. the last big sale in april(?) i actually passed up bentons to buy a pair of stantons, so i was very eager to get a pair of c and j made shoes now that i know what they are.
well the boots are definately going back, i cant even get the one open wide enough to slide onto my slightly larger right foot, and they just dont work with jeans like i was hoping they would. also i was surprised they have dainite soles given the product descritpion online, but i guess thats prolly best.
anyways im still on the fence about the wingtips. i think they are awesome shoes, but im not sure if they are right for me. i generally stay away from shoes that are chunky, since im a size 12, but with these wingtips i could not resist because they are just perfectly styled/proportioned. but like i said maybe these shoes arent for me. they are 13.25 inches long, which is a half inch longer than my stantons. and quite tall and just plain big! i mean they could easily be a murder weapon in the board game "clue." ill decide over the next few days, i wonder if anyone on here is a size 12. ill certainly ask if anyone wants them before sending them to polo if i decide that.
anyways after all that i do actually have a question. are these shoes double soled? they have a thick sole and also look just like the cardiff on the c and j website, which is double soled. what does a double sole do, functionally? are they more weatherproof? also, why is the leather folded up all around the bottom of the shoe where it meets the sole? is that a purely asthetic detail or not? i see on some shoes theres something called a storm welt, altho i cant tell what that is because they only have the top view on their website. thanks for any help, these are kinda noob questions i know, sorry!
youre not kidding about those martinos. i have been looking like crazy for a pair of relatively sleek ankle boots that i could dress up a bit with flannel (and possibly even a suit on more casual occasions) - the boots were horrible for me even at the sale price. the instep is extremely narrow and they did not feel solidly constructed at all. also not a big fan of the fairly bulbous toe shape on them - very strange to have such a narrow fitting shoe through the body and then have that toe.
also, strange to hear they had dainite. i know the store had dainite soles but the web site clearly indicated they were leather soles. i dont know if they fit any better but the previous model (frances, i think) was a much, much more elegant last.
