Positively shocking.
I used to sit with the Radio Shack catalog at boring family functions and dream up cool circuits I could design and build. (Also would read the Forrest Mims books they had on basic electronics, not sure why I thought that stuff was so fun back then, but at least I know how to solder now, which comes in handy sometimes.) I got this other great catalog that had lots of industrial surplus parts like switches but some very random other stuff like RFE military parts, geiger counters, aviation instruments, specialized tools, etc. I thought it was called C&H but I can't find it anymore. I also still love to go to Boeing Surplus and check out all the random stuff they have there, giant bins of tape, tubes, wires, cables, computer stuff, bulk metal, tools, everything. Very specialized stuff. I seem to remember coordinating a field trip there for some science class as a kid and everyone had a blast and got all kinds of weird random stuff.
