How much student debt did/will you graduate with?

Doesn't surprise me - $40K / year for many private universities is not unusual. And if you have parents that are "wealthy" (note the quotes) - you won't get much in loans.

BTW - my response is approx 12K (grad 1992)

Only about $25,000.

I was thinking of paying it all off in one lump sum early next year (Jan or Feb), but I consolidated my student loans at about 5.5% so it would make more sense to stick the $25K in an investment that pays 8% or higher and pay off my debt slowly.

Still, it would be nice to have all that debt gone.

I worked my way through undergrad and graduated with $8k, only after going on an exchange for 6 months. Then I went to law school and it's now about $100k in total.

If I stay at this school, I'll graduate with no debt. If I transfer to a private or out-of-state public, I'll probably have to take some loans out.

Freshman year...11k in debt. After this, I'm hoping for a full ride. If I don't receive that full ride, I'll head back to a public university.

you are, literally, a gentleman and a scholar. Hillary should finagle you a loophole in her upcoming tax-hike for this good deed. As for me, I have no student debt. My parents paid about 2/3 of undergrad, and I took care of the rest working as the nightwatchman at the infirmary and in a deli a couple afternoons a week + overnight most weekends. Looking back on it, it's amazing I managed to spend so much time intoxicated while being on the clock most nights & graduating w/ honors. My current employer is paying for my masters, which is pretty sweet as the degree is in no way job-related.

$160k for law school, plus about $20k for undergrad. So, ~$180k total. It'll be like paying for a second mortgage when I graduate. Can't wait!

I have to say that as one who graduated from law school in '82, I'm stunned by the tuition charged these days. I think my total educational debt (including financing my way through two undergrad degrees) amounted to $20k, and that comparatively small sum was darned difficult to repay. I have nothing but sympathy for you guys who are looking down the barrel of a six digit debt load.

Frankly, I think the ROI of a college education from many universities today is remarkably meager. I have a daughter who will doubtless be sidling up to the financial aid window one day and it scares the wits out of me to think of how much debt she may incur. All this, while some universities continue to accumulate embarrassingly huge endowments even as they lobby Congress to increase federally subsidized student loan programs.

No debt from my undergraduate degree and $32K from graduate school. Happy to say I'm down to $2K owed.

Ill have around 28k AUD, by the time I finish middle of next year. That's what an Eng/Sci degree costs in Australia.

I will finish my B.A. owing nothing (and I paid for school by myself), for my Masters however, I see debt in my future (even though my parents are willing to subsidize me for quite a bit).

Nothing after current civil law degree. I might have some debts if I decide to travel next summer, but that's it.
