Remixes.

I am a great fan of music remixes. Nothing better than a sheer convulsive contrast of styles in one song. For example, I've always thought that Royksopp's songs were rather ideal for mixing--the Jacques LuCont Thin White Duke version of "What Else Is There" is nice though the Trentemoller one is also excellent. Is anybody else a fan?

The Stereo Total remix album 'Discotheque' is pretty good.

Also the dual-disc Kruder & Dorfmeister album 'The K&D Sessions' has some great downtempo remixes.

These two sound interesting.

The DJ Jeremy Healey has also done some fantastic mixes, mostly for Dior's runway. I remember there was an especially fun one with Patti Smith's "Rock N'Roll Nigger".

There's another nice one of Radiohead versus Marvin Gaye called "Sexual High". I actually find uptempo mixes more exciting.

I like Girl Talk. Does anyone here yell "REEEEMIXXXXXX" at parties when the CD starts to skip?

Both.

As for the two suggestions, yes I have them.

I too like the Trentemøller take on "What Else Is There"... do you listen to Hed Kandi's Twisted Disco? There's also a nice "Vitalic Remix" of "What Else Is There" that's taken at a quicker tempo, but the pitch of the female singer's voice isn't adjusted back down so it's in a higher key - up about a third. Interesting. You might enjoy "Gia Satisfaction" (DJ Steve Levy Bootleg Mix) which blends Benny Bennasi's "Satisfaction" with Despina Vandi's "Gia" found on "Best of House, Vol. 3".

Röyksopp - 49 Percent (Angello & Ingrosso Remix)
José Gonzales - Crosses (Tiesto Remix)
D.O.N.S. - Big Fun (Dave Spoon Remix)

Also noteworthy is "Rapture Riders" with Blondie feat the Doors. Optimo's "Atomic" is nice if not a bit ubiquitous.

Hybrid - Finished Symphony (Deadmau5 Remix)

and albeit not a remix, I'd also like to recommend Gregor Tresher - A Thousand Nights.

I have been a big fan of remixes over the years. Back in the day (ie Homogenic and before) Bjork had amazing remixes. Graham Massey, Dallas Austen, Dilinja, etc.

Leftfield had some brilliant remixes from their second album (well, both really).

New Order always commissioned good remixes.

My feeling is that a remix ought to stay pretty true to the original. When you try to go too far from the original (I don't know, a dnb remix of an acid house track or something) it is far too easy to fail. But when it's done well, it can be amazing.

in addition to the above, depeche mode have consistently always do a good job with remixes, offering some standard extended versions to some totally unrecognizable ones for their releases

I love Diplo. I also enjoyed Legion of Doom first mashups immensely.

Still rank Armand Van Helden's garage remix of Sneaker Pimps "Spin, Spin, Sugar" as my all time favorite remix. Where do you guys find info on the releases and what's hot? I haven't been in the loop in a while.
