The most obvious one missing would have to be Leonardo di Caprio. His roles in What's Eating Gilbert Grape, Marvin's Room, a Boy's Life, and Basketball Diaries are all excellent.

Phillip Seymour Hoffman is really great.

I think Michael Imperiolli is tremendously talented.

Why not?

Some really great actors, including DeNiro, think Dicaprio is among the most talented of his generation. Have you seen any of the movies I listed?

I thought Imperioli totally out-acted him in Basketball Diaries. I couldn't stand him in Gangs of New York, or The Departed. koji edit: I forgot about Catch Me if you Can--he was quite good in that.

I dont see how of your generation seems fair if you have seen their movies....

My generation would be: Ryan Gosling, Emile Hirsche, Jake Gylenhaal, Leonardo Dicaprio, Matt Damon
For women: I cannot think of any simply from their acting.
There are probably more however I cannot name them.

Pure Acting from movies I have seen: Leonardo DiCaprio, Jack Nicholson, Kevin Spacey, Tom Hanks, Sean Penn, Dustin Hoffman, Ray Fiennes as a villain

People I enjoy watching and I think are good: All the ones from the pure acting, Clooney, Pitt, Crowe, Damon, Pacino, De Niro...

For women it has nothing to do with acting for the most part. I cant think of as many women from an acting standpoint...

I think from an acting standpoint he can play more roles than anyone else in his generation...

I made it a generational thing, because it's too broad a subject for all-time (and I'm sure it's already been discussed on here ad infinitum).

Christian Bale and Edward Norton are far more believable in the myriad roles they've tackled than DiCaprio for me.

I am not going to argue you even though I think DiCaprio deserves a spot up there. Those two actors are really really good. Christian Bales played so many different and weird roles and hes killed em all...

As great as he was in American Psycho, I was really blown away by the Machinist.

Bale is definitely a very good actor, I usually like him way better than the movies he stars in, he's one of the few american actors who can elevate a picture.
