Is there anything special to know about the Su Misura (MTM) label? Is it a good line or should I stick with Canali?

There are a few nice suits on ebay that appear to be my size, and well within my price range, but I dont know enough about them to say "go" or not.

Thanks,
Scot

Su Misura isn't a line; it's just Zegna's MTM program. You can order either Sartorial or Couture garments.

A lot of people on this board and elsewhere like to talk up Canali vis-a-vis Sartorial Zegna, and I've never really seen it. The quality of make is similar, but I don't like the fabrics that Canali offers or their different jacket models (I haven't found one that doesn't make me look like a linebacker). Zegna MTM is something of a machine. They get it right more frequently faster than any other company I've done MTM with, and I've used several.

Ok, so I am confused a bit. Is Zegna's MTM still considered "high quality" then, or is it going to be a hit or miss situation on ebay? Is there any visual way to tell the relative quality from the label or will it require talking to the seller to try to get info about the fabric? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws....ry=3001 Something like that is what I was thinking of. Thanks, Scot

In English, "Su Misura" means measured for ..

Other than styling, I cannot tell wether Canali is better than Zegna or vice versa.  I think they are at the same level.

Ok. Zegna has has following lines:

1. Zegna Napoli Courture XXX line and its Su Misura service.
2. Ermenegildo Zegna. and its Su Misura service.
3. Z Zegna.

- #1 Line is the most expensive zegna line.

- #1 and #2, each have ready to wear and made to measure option. Made to measure service costs about 15% more compare to its ready to wear suits. Cost really varies what type of fabric that you choose when buying MTM suits.

In terms of construction quality, #2 of Zegna is pretty much same as Canali. But Zegna Napoli is hand made.

Better be becareful when buying Zegna suits on ebay. Most of the suits are not made by Zegna .. just a suit with Zegna fabric..

I think I have studied enough of the Zegna labels to figure out which is zegna and which is just fabric, but you guys are the experts so I figure I will ask.

The auction I listed appears to be true Zegna since it has a Zegna Su Misura label. No clue if it is #1 or #2 though.

If the label just says Ermenegildo Zegna it is the #2 line.

#1 will say Zegna Coture (haven't seen any of this yet)

The rest will say "Cloth Ermenegildo Zegna" or Zegna and a the true manufacturers name like Uomo (sp) or Tuttaro (sp). They use the Zegna cloth, but are not stitched up in the zegna factory, so final quality will depend on the true manufacturer.

That sound about right?

My take away then is a Su Misura is not a guarantee of the best of the best, but at 250 bucks or so, its still a good deal. That is IF you fit the measurements since the suits are made to measure already.

Thanks again guys. Gotta love learning how it all really works.
