"The Secret World" looks like a really lame MMO concept...

Does anybody play EVE Online? It's pretty darn sick. I'm about to start back up again.

The Secret World's execution seems to be pretty good and I like the overall theme. The skill based system and the fact that clothing affects nothing outside of appearance are both great ideas. Plus Funcom has never let me down for entertainment (once the bugs get thrown out)

I was an EVE Online player for four or five years in one of the biggest and best corporations ever. It was the most fun I had in an MMO, despite the game itself being, frankly, awful.

What didn't you like about the game?

Anyone else excited about Dragon's Dogma?

It was spreadsheets with pretty lights! The interface was terrifically terrible. Right click menus for everything from setting orbit distance to quitting a corporation (I think the "quit squad" button was right below the "close chat" button). The game's combat was limited essentially by how much you struggled with the interface.

Pretty much everything else was awesome though: The player interaction, the difficult learning curve, the laissez-faire attitude, the ability to do whatever you want . The things we did as a corporation/alliance were phenomenal. The metagame was something really unique to EVE and it was fun attracting the very very real anger of people.

These were similar complaints/advantages of playing games like Ultima Online (unofficial shards). Freedom/In-depth clan warfare and refine social elements vs Gameplay restrictions.

Witcher 2. Not sure how I feel about this game so far, but I already like the story more than I did Mass Effect 3's. Mass Effect 3 was definitely more fun though.

I've been meaning to play that. As a Wagner fan it pains me to say that I'm quickly turned off by most Medieval fantasy games.

The mechanics and learning curve of Ultima Online were considerably easier though. Right clicking to swing a sword is different from right clicking on an enemy, hitting the target button, setting transversal and orbit, setting speed, hitting tackling devices and electronic warfare, then hitting your weaponry... I played tacklers and interceptors because I got tired of getting popped in big ships.

The Witcher 2 was my GOTY for 2011. Treat combat like a slower, more strategic Batman: Arkham Asylum. The characters are great and the moral decisions are tremendous (and decide the entire second act).

Favorite Genesis game (and that says a lot, I still actively collect Genesis):

I'll probably play this next. I preordered it but was never able to play it at launch because it wouldn't work on my computer. A few players had this problem with no known way to fix it. I don't mind waiting since they've added so much stuff to this new edition.

Have you tried Demon's Souls or Dark Souls? Great dark fantasy atmosphere, story and gameplay.
